Any tips on how to study for the NCLEX-RN while enrolled in classes?

Hi everyone!

I graduated in june with my Associates Degree in Nursing. I took the NCLEX-RN in August and failed. I took the Kaplan Review Course (live session) for the month of July as well as did my own studying. I am now doing the Hurst Online Review, which I am finding to be helpful, but there is a lot of information. I am also enrolled in classes for my BSN. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that was in my shoes and can give me some tips on how to divide my time between studying for the NCLEX-RN and school work. I plan on taking my exam some time in december.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm taking my BSN classes online so it is a little easier. Just make time do do 50-100 questions a day. Do the questions in the morning before your class and review the rationales later at night. I've done Hurst, with all the information you might want to do notecards. You can take them anywhere, review them on your way to class or during breaks. It's tough but we have to stay focused. Good luck!

I know school takes a lot of time. I've studied for my NCLEX while working full time, but work is work, I find school/homework more stressful than just working at my same old job of five years.

My tip would be to install NCLEX apps that have the highest ratings, I would use it here at work whenever I was bored and whenever I went to the bathroom, during breaks, before I slept, at home whenever I felt like it (whis was a lot). In addition I would do lots of questions, Kaplan Q trainers is what I did, I also did Hurst review online which to me were very useful because I could listen to one to two lectures a day and when I got done with all the lectures I did all their Test trainers.

Good luck, you can do it. And since you're in school and the semester is over in December, I would recommend to focus mostly on school, and study for NCLEX whenever you can, but focus on taking the NCLEX a day before the start of your next semester. Study continuously during that 2-3 week break and take it a few days before your next semester.

Thank you! That is something I need to start doing more is questions...I seem to be focusing a lot more on the content. Good luck to you too!

@meeks123 -- I plan to take it the week before finals just so I don't have to worry about finals and the nclex at the same time, but if I find i'm not ready by then i figured i can always push the test date back. I have the kaplan and ATI apps on my phone but i prefer kaplan because i heard the ATI aren't written like the actual NCLEX test questions. I just hope I can fit in all those questions they tell you to do by my test date! Thank you for your suggestions!
