Orthopedic nurse moving to AZ
I would love to move to AZ by next year. At the moment I am in a med/surge/oncology floor... I am moving to the orthopedic/neurosurgery and some med/surge floor. I love that floor as there is no more oncology patients and I love to work with ortho patients the most. They have less co-morbidities for the most part and lesser of a cancer background. Anyways, do they have hospitals with orthopedic floors over in AZ? 12 hour shifts? if so, which ones? I've been browsing online and all I see is mostly med/surge positions, and what do the med/surge positions consist of in AZ, here we have half and half, half med/surge, half oncology... is oncology involved there too or is that on a different floor? Thank you!!!

Bio (Anatomy) and Chem Together
Very doable. I remember taking A&P II with chemistry part I together while working full time. A&P was the one I had to concentrate for and study for. Chemistry wasn't bad, it was fun, I would read a chapter the day before the quizzes. I would suggest for the future, you pick classes after checking them out on ratemyprofessor.com, I went to that site and got the professors with the highest ratings and obviously, I learned a lot, but they didn't make the classes be unpassable. Also, I would suggest dropping the sign language class. Why are you taking that? for fun? just take it later. If you are on the bachelor program they probably will put you for two years on the waiting list, you can take it then.

Get to know at least one person from the class ahead of you, and make sure you ask for detailed tips on how to pass the class before each semester starts.

8hr vs. 12hr work days
My goal is to get a 12 hour shift job.. I would love it if it happened to be three days in a row... Since I have no children, I would see it as a reason to hybernate from the outside world for three days and then enjoy my four days off... I see it as not a big deal or tiring, because during clinicals when I had my 12 hour shifts, I literally slept all day long, ate quickly, showered and went to the hospital... then came home, slept and repeated it again. It wasn't bad for me and that would be my dream shift!!!

Critique my resume
They are minor skills, but a lot of nurses in my program haven't even performed NG suctioning or hung up the tube feedings, or hung up piggyback meds... I was able to do that in my last semester at my preceptorship, so that's why it makes me think that it would be a good idea to list it... Thank you for looking at this JustBeachyNurse

Critique my resume
Yes, that's what I was thinking, I hear short and to the point, but to me it doesn't sound like it matches the whole resume. I was thinking of one of these two: Spanish – Expert Fluency Proficient knowledge of disease processes and medical terminology Proficient knowledge of monitoring chest tubes, performing nasopharyngeal suctioning, administering tube feedings, and administering meds via oral/IM/IV route including attaching piggyback IV tube sets Excellent computer skills and ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment or (this one is divided into two columns) SUMMARY OF SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Spanish – Expert Fluency Disease processes knowledge Chest tube monitoring Nasogastric suctioning Tube feeding administration Meds administration via oral/IM/IV route including attaching piggyback IV tube sets Excellent computer skills Ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment

Critique my resume
The way we were taught in school was to list our clinical experience, I tried to shorten it a bit to make it fit into one page. At first I made a resume that was two pages long, excluding the reference page, but I have not received a single call in a month!!! It makes me think it may have been too long. Is this one single page better? Any help needed please. I took off the objectives and some stuff that seemed repetitive. I want a medical job!!!!
Depending on how long it takes to get a CNA, it could be a waste of time and money, or not. From my quick reading that I read online a couple of minutes ago, I think it would be a good choice. It appears that is a one semester training course, so is quick and once you are done you can work in the hospital and make connections!!! I think she may think is a waste of time because most nursing students do not work while they take their nursing classes, so I'm guessing she thinks you will go to school in January of 2014, get your CNA certification by May 2014.. be on the search for jobs for a month... then work for two months and quit to start Nursing school. To me, it sounds like a good idea if you could be a CNA part time during nursing school, otherwise, volunteering in the hospital until the start of the Nursing program would be good.

Nursing School. Did you work?
I tried to work full time and do Nursing school, and it was hard lol. After the first month, I began working part time hours depending on my schooling, 20-30 hours a week, back to 40 hours whenever I was on break. With working, you can expect to work, study, go back to school, work, study, go to school, and coffee coffee coffee in between, lol. It was a crazy and fun year, lol. Glad is over :)

Where should I buy my interview clothes?
Thank you all very much, I will try Banana Republic one of these days, those other stores mentioned, I don't have locally. Anyways, thanks for all the help, and for those that shop in Nordstrom, they currently have a sale, I just got some non-interview clothes from there, and yes, the prices are not bad when on sale, lol.

Where should I buy my interview clothes?
I'm pretty clueless about this because as most new nurses, I have not been interviewed for a "professional" position thus far. I wore casual wear for my current non-professional position. In Nursing school, I heard is good to invest in professional looking clothes. I know I should wear dress pants and a blouse. My question is wear do I invest for this clothing, Nordstrom? The clothes there are pretty expensive, and I really do not want to invest that much, but if I must, then I guess I'll have to, but can interviewers even tell if is brand clothing and is that what they want to see? Would JcPenney or forever 21 be good other options too? Do you guys have any other suggestions and their price ranges. Thank you very much p.s. I do not have an interview scheduled anywhere yet, but I want to get ready in case if one pops up soon :)
