I found a program nearby that I could take CNA courses for 5 weekends and then take the state exam. It wouldn't cost me a lot of money, but I think it would be the best thing for me to try so that I can decide if nursing is right for me. I don't plan on working during nursing school, so the CNA job would be a job that I worked during the year of 2014 until I know if I get accepted into nursing school. I would then quit if I were to be accepted into the BSN program.

She is an RN and has been for years. She thought that it would be a waste of time because I would only be able to work in geriatrics and that wouldn't give me good experience of what was ahead for nursing.

By the way, I live in Georgia!

I first would like to thank each of you for posting your ideas. It has really helped me. I have next semester and medical microbiology to complete during the summer and the nursing program that I want to apply to has agreed to let me apply Fall of 2014. So I have some time to possibly take a CNA certification course so that I can work during the summer . If I becoming a CNA may take me too long, or won't work with my schedule, why other certifications should I look into that may also help me gain experience. I respect you all and appreciate your help in making my dreams of coming a nurse more realistic!!!!

Hello guys. I am currently a pre-nursing student at UNG and I really want to get into Piedmont College for nursing school. It is kind of my only choice because I am cramming as many classes in as possible so that I can apply Fall of 2013. What steps should I take to ensure that I have a very good chance of getting into the program. I finished my freshman year at UGA with a 3.6 GPA. So far, my grades at UNG are also good. Any advice?

I am currently a pre-nursing student and I would LOVE to get a job in the medical field so that I can gain a little experience and make sure nursing is for me. I haven't been able to get a job because I don't have any certifications. When I spoke with someone at my local hospital, she told me to get my CNA certificate. I was told by a nursing mentor that having a CNA would be a waste of time. I am totally lost. Any ideas on medical jobs I can get will being a pre-nursing student, or any advice on whether a CNA would be helpful??? Thanks!
