Any tips for science portion of TeasV; petrified!

I am a nervous wreck. I have been studying for 2 months now out of the ATI study manual. I am no the science portion anf studying that section like it's my written will or something! It's crazy, but I am so terrified I wont pass! =[

I am really good with studying but reading threads about the science part being completely random and all over the place worries me sick! For those who have taken TeasV, do you agree that the ATI manual was no help in regards to the science portion? How did you do on it? and what else did you study with?

Plan on taking the test next month, but I am willing to study anything to make sure I do go, I will be absolutely devastated if I don't get in =[

Thanks so much in advance!

I took the TEAS V this morning, (and passed, yay me! with only 2 weeks to study) To me, the science portion was the most difficult. However, the material in the book was a very good represenative of what to expect on the test. Also, I found on youtube, videos by Khan Academy, covering the biology and chemistry portions, they were really really helpful, and easy to understand. Sparknotes is online as well. Take the practice tests in the back of the book! And good luck to you!

really? so why do you think the science was so hard? do you think if you had more time to study, it would have been easier??

The wording in the science section of the study guide was a bit confusing. It was also the longest, so weighted the most, and of course more stressful! I took chemistry about 10 years ago in HS, and I wasnt very good at it then, so trying to relearn it on my own was tricky. I was trying to reteach myself something that I didnt really master to begin with, so I dont think more study time would have made much of a difference for me.

Sounds like you've had plenty of time to prepare, so if you have a good understanding of the material in the book, you'll be fine. If you can, get the practice tests from the ATI site, after you finnish, it tells you which sections you need to focus on, and there are tutorials available as well.

If you do well on the practice tests, you will be just fine for the real thing. The wording, and types of questions are very similar, and cover the same topics. There is a little bit of everything on the test, which could be a good thing. If you're really awful with balancing chemical equations (like me lol) theres only 2 or so questions like that on the test.

What's a passing score? (for me, a 65%) If you score higher does it factor in your acceptance in to school?

The Science part is actually very easy. I don't know why everyone says its so hard. The wording wasn't difficult or anything. Everything that is in the ATI study guide was covered on the test except for a few here and there. It was nothing but a bunch of basic questons on DNA/RNA/Mitosis/Meiosis/Photosynthesis (identify the formula)/Cellular Respiration/AP questions about the heart/Disgestion/Easy Chem questions. Not difficult at all

I'm taking the TEASV pretty soon, too, so I appreciate the info. I will definitely check out the Kahn Academy videos on YouTube (thanks for the tip, aachavez :D). I'm stressed about the science portion myself, partly because I haven't taken A&P or micro yet (and I have to take the test in the next month or so), and partly because it's been a while since I've taken basic biology. I'm definitely going to have to re-visit all of that.

Good luck on the test! I'm sure you'll do fine. Remember, sometimes confidence is the key.
