I am currently in a fast track BSN program and I am just wondering if anyone has any helpful tips that may help me get into CRNA school? What information should I focus in on, what department should I try to work in for my acute care experience??... anything would be helpful!!!!

The first thing you need to do is start shadowing Nurse Anesthetists. Make them realize you are serious about going to anesthesia school and remember the ones you can get potential written references from. Second, get into a department that encourages autonomous care, has lots of cool toys to play with and tons of drugs that can potentially kill people quickly. A solid open heart recovery ward is always a good place to find these qualities. This kind of unit teaches you how to think for yourself before calling big brother for help. Finally, you have to sell your soul to the devil or at least loan it out to his mistress SallieMae. She is a real bi&*$ so be careful. Oh, one more thing. Make sure you tell the wife/girlfriend/goldfish that they are really nice and all, but you will have to check back with them in 2.5 years. This is what I did to get into school. The goldfish died, I forgot to feed him when the wife was away.

Make all A's. Even if you may have to compromise your integrity and sleep with your instructors. At all costs...make A's.

I don't know any CRNAs so I have been having a difficult time finding one to shadow. I've called UT and also checked the hospital I'm currently at, but none are available. Any other suggestions on how to find someone?
