Any tips for a clinic setting nurse? NEW GRAD.

Published

I just graduated and my first job is at an OBGYN clinic my dream job actually and I just feel like I cant keep up, I hate not really knowing much about my patients or trying to keep up with the EMAR ? I'm use to actual paper notes and being organized , I just cant keep up and its making me so sad and scared any tips? any diaphragms or print outs or even advice that can help me?

Well, I don’t think a diaphragm is going to help but since you work in an OB/GYN clinic I found that error to be hysterically ironic. ?

Beyond that I really don’t have much to add but to say hang in there. You’re a new grad. These feelings are normal. That being said, clinics are tough for newbies. People erroneously think they’re easy but I doubt you had much orientation before you were thrown into it sink or swim. Can you talk with one of the more experienced RNs in your office? They will be the best source for getting organized since they are familiar with the office process

And I have to ask, how on earth did you get through nursing school without using an EMR system?

How much orientation was provided on the EMR ? It takes a couple of weeks with full time training to become adequate with charting.

Specializes in Primary Care, LTC, Private Duty.

Which EMR are you using? I might be able to help you with that: I oriented all of our new hires when I worked primary care.
