Any Thoughts On Yuma?

Does anyone have experience with the hospital in Yuma, especially seasonal employment? My current contract - 2 year M-S - ends in August and I'm thinking a move away from hell might be in order.

Yuma has certain attraction because of the close proximity to Algodones and inexpensive dental care. Currently exploring some long-term options that will require several trips over a few months and driving several hours each way is a drag. A seasonal arrangement might fit the bill while the wife and I decide on longer term plans and get some other things out of the way.

Nothing like resurrecting an old thread but what the heck, no sense in covering old discussion points.

For those raving about the temps in Yuma the temps here in BHC exceed Yuma's by a couple degrees on almost any given day, so that isn't a factor.

As far as being a "small" town in my view Yuma has the amenities I seek - Red Lobster, Olive Gardens, Famous Dave's BBQ, and Kohl's, Circuit City and others - while having a few million fewer drivers on the streets thereabouts. If you've never been stuck with one main north-south road filled (depending on the season) with either Geritol-lacking snowbirds or drunken week-enders towing boats bigger than their houses you aren't missing anything.

A traveler I worked with here - he now works another floor but is still here owing to a "family" situation - described Yuma Med Center as perhaps the best place he's ever worked as far as people, equipment, etc. I asked why he ever left and he could only say that his rule of thumb is x-number of contract periods before moving on (since pattern broken owing to the "family" situation).

Yeah, verifly I am still here begrudgingly. Contract is ended as of last year but my beautiful bride wanted another year with her employer since it is her first position in the education field. But school ends in a few months and then....

I will be the lone voice on this one.

Yuma is great in the Winter.

In addition; with all the snow birds flocking there, the hospital(s?) might need seasonal nurses.

Most of the Mojave is dry in comparison to Yuma.

The heat index is affected by humidity. Yuma has the Colorado river and farming so the Mojave might (and does to me) feel cooler than Yuma.
