Hi guys. I got my letter and I start May 09 which is Summer Semester at Valencia Community College in Orlando. I am STOKED! I am wondering if there are any other people out there starting in the summer. I have seen threads for Fall and Spring but no Summer
I know you guys are out there..........let's talk about the pros of starting in Summer!
I have two pro's
#1 My kids will be heading to there Dad's for the summer a month after I start. So no daycare and early mornings for them!
#2 They only take 70 people at that campus for the summer I believe. They take the rest at another Campus. Then in the fall the ones in Osceola head over to the main campus, where I am. I think having the smaller class size may help me get more individualized attention for that crazy first semester.
I am taking 4 classes this fall. Spanish, Algebra, Intro to Humanities and American Government. I already have an NCLEX Review book, How to Survive and Maybe Even Love ursing School and Test Success- Test Taking Strategies for Beginning Nursing Students. The latter looks like it is going to be an awesome tool. The beginning talks about a positive internal Locus of Control, among other things to keep a positive mentality. I am so excited to read it.

I am not an official nursing student yet... I am taking my pre-reqs at FCCJ. I have ENC1101 and BSC2086C left before applying -> that and the CPR class and the NAT test. My plan is to apply for Summer 09 Nursing School (night/weekends).
I am 46 yrs old. I have a Engineering degree (BE - EE). I have to take ENC1101 because I CLEP'd out of 6 cr of English in 1979....and FCCJ would give me only a "C" towards my nursing pre-req points. That's crap, but the ENC1101 should be an easy "A" for me.
What sux for me is that I hated EE when I got that degree. I spent 8 years as a 'rocket scientist' for the USAF and NASA. I quit that and have been a mainframe programmer for the past 17 yrs. My GPA by the time I graduated with my EE degree was pretty low . My GPA for my prereqs is 3.75 but the overall is now 2.6. Glad that FCCJ only counts my prereqs for acceptance! My math grade they will use is a "B" but that was Calculus. I had 5 math courses in my first degree and they started at Calculus and went UP from there.
I am so looking forward to becoming a nurse!
Bump.........where are you guys? I tell everybody at school about allnurses....Im so lonely! LOL :chuckle
Still here. Two days left in this term and I will be submitting my application.
I was just notified that I am to be laid off at EOM Jan. I was going to take a break and take the spring semester off. Now it looks like I am going to need the student loans just to survive! The market is bad out there.
Stress level is pretty high right now. Lord! I cannot wait until this is all over!

Hi I Also start the nursing program at vcc during the summer. I am so excited and also scared about starting. Have you received any correspondence regarding due dates for shots, cpr, etc.?
No, I haven't received anything as of yet. I think they wait until a month or so before you start to tell you anything.
I am pretty stressed too at this point. My bf was just laid off and getting another job is really tough right now. I beleive I will be looking for a job to do during Spring Semester.
It is almost here though, so the wait is almost over!
I know i cant wait. I am sorry about your bf losing his job though. I am stressed about the upcoing nursing classes, being a mother of four with a husband. It gets really crazy around here sometimes. Have you gotten your immunizations orbcpr cert yet?
I have two kids of my own so I (kinda) know what you mean! Mine are 11.5 and 8. How about yours?
I have not done my imm. yet because when I went to that first info session Molly said something to the affect that we could get them at school. I really am not sure on that though. My friend is doing the Respiratory program and she went to the doc to get hers. Honestly I will probably go to the health department or something, or maybe just the Solantic on Kirkman across from the school.
As for the cpr cert, I need to do tat too. My friend from above did hers and it was 45 bucks I beleive. I will be taking care of that once I get my financial aid this semester.
My kids are 12,10,7, and 5. I wont start anything until my finaid comes. I will prob go to the dr office or the health dept. To get my imm. I a looking for somewhere to get the cpr cert done. Thanks for the info

My program, at MGHIHP in Boston, starts in the summer. This has me so confused about financial aid, but otherwise I'm happy because I'm not ready for a spring start and fall seems too far away! :)
At my school we only get two semesters of financial aid. I learned the hard way last summer! So what that meas for me is that I really conserve money where I can. I will also go ahead and pay for Summer as soon as I get my financial aid from Spring.
Good Luck!
The only thing I have left to accomplish is the CPR course....called all the numbers that the school supplied and all I got were answering machines or auto info with dates for courses that had already passed! Hopefully someone has a course in Jan. We have to submit the applications by Feb for summer admit.
