I found I had to go back to nursing when I couldn't get hired in any other capacity. I found my age and the fact that I was a nurse worked against me. I suppose it would be easier for someone who is young and goes back to college for credentials in another profession. At my age, I wouldn't go back to college for another line of work.

Caliotter3? May I ask your age or age range? I ask because I didn't start nursing until I was nearly 40 and am working toward my BSN now with tentative hopes of becoming a psych NP. Getting hired definitely takes on a new light as we age, sigh, but if one has a really marketable skill such as nursing lol, it makes it easier. I've been fortunate enough to have loved my first career for over 20 years and now as a relatively new RN I'm loving it.
Jules, I was in my 40s when I got laid off from my nursing job and started trying to get work in anything. I had a previous successful career when I went back to nursing school at 37. Because of the setback of being laid off, I ended my BSN program and almost 20 years later am still plugging away trying to get an RN license. I have managed to find work when I look for nursing jobs. Don't even try anything else. I think things would be a lot easier once I get the RN license.
