Hello i was wondering if there are any students in the ADN program at Houston Community College. I just wanted to know how the program is and what to expect for the first semester. Also is there and thing that I can do over the summer to prepare for the first semester. Thanks, any comments would be greatly appreciated.:flowersfo

So far, the peds instructors are the best!!!

Yea i figured it would be intense because you are craming so much into so little time. Well it is good that they have good teachers for that. I think i will do fine. So the ones that didnt pass do they get to take it again or are they done with the program. I am excited and nervous about the first semester. I have to get schedules together for everyone because i an married with two children. I hear how hected it can be with a family, but i feel i can handle it because i dont have to work. Do you remember all the books that you had to have for the first semester.

The books...lab, drug, careplan, foundations, med-surg, taylors clinical nursing skills with the cd's...and I am sure you have the calculate with confidence book right? I think that is it. I can't remember anything else.

You have to have the med-surg and those cd's for the first semester. I started to order them, i found a good price on them cause HCC prices are ridiculous. I have my pharm. book and the calculate w/ confidence.

You can buy the cd's from me. PM if you want them. Or you can just borrow them and give them back once you are done with them. Save your money!!! With books, uniforms, stethoscope, shoes, etc it will add up quick. Trust me.

Oh ok, thanks i will borrow them from you, and just return them when i am finished. Are the stethoscopes expensive, and what is a good one to buy. I want to get as much out of the way as possible, I heard that you will come out of about $200-250 at orientation, i dont know how true that is but thats what i heard. So i was just going to buy a few things at a time over the summer, so that it dont all pile up on me at once and i have to spend a lot of money at one time, and it seems like books are always cheaper at the end of the semester.

For the stetho, just get a littman. Those are the best and if you can afford it, go for it. I didn't buy it thru the school. Purchased it on my own for about $60 in the med center. Don't remember the name of the store.

I honestly don't remember how much I did spend during orientation. I would call and ask them.

Yea i think i will call them and ask them, thanks alot.

No problem. If you have smart phone you may want to look into loading it with software that comes in handy during clinicals. Barely getting it now but I wish I had it from the beginning! :) Check out Constellation...its a package deal which is pretty sweet.

Wow, thanks this looks like it is going to come in handy, once you buy it, is it unlimited or do it expire after the year is up. Even if it expire after a year this is still a great buy. The instructors don't mind if you use this in clinicals, if not I am Definitely getting this. It seem like it would be so convenient, and you don't have to carry around pocket guides for everything.

As long as you let them know what its for and show them they are fine with it. As long as they know...bc if they catch you LOL, Good Luck!!! hahah jk, but seriously most of the time they don't mind. plus, you wont use unless you need to.

Ok i understand you just have to let them know in advance
