Any schools in Michigan without a wait list?

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am currently waiting to hear if I have been accepted or not at the local community college I've been attending. With Michigan's economy, so many people are trying to get in the nursing program. I have even thought about going to Ohio since I live in lower Michigan. Does anyone have any tips on schools that don't have a waiting list??? Thanks.

As far as I know all the Community Colleges there have waiting lists. I moved out to Arizona to get on a short list!

I know Macomb, St Clair and Oakland community colleges all are competitive admission - no waiting lists. It seems to me Henry Ford might be also. Good luck.

Jackson Community College uses a point system instead of a waitlist, but it's pretty competitive. They go by grades, prior certification, special classes, etc.

They just changed the system so I'm not sure where it stands now, but in previous semesters, you had to have around 85 points (out of 100) to be admitted. They just changed things (more points for certain grades in certain classes) so I'm not sure where the cutoff will be for the fall.

Thanks for your responses. I currently go to Wayne County Community College (Downriver). I guess I will keep my fingers crossed that my GPA of 3.45 will be good enough to get me in. I have stellar letters of recommendation from 2 veterinarians that I worked with for almost 14 years (and am still friends with). I have looked into a couple schools in Ohio since they are not to far from my house. There is no wait list, but much more expensive since it's not a community college. Just have to wait and see.

I was just accepted to OCC's nursing program for the fall....there is no wait list here. I left Lansing community last summer, began OCC in the fall, applied in december and begin this September. I used to go to LCC till I figured out that the ONLY people who will ever get into their nursing is people living in Lansing, theres is also a point system and I figured it up that people with 2.0's who live in Lansing get in before me with a 4.0 living outside of Lansing. OCC is the only school I found that considers GPA alone, so if you have a good GPA I would try there...Plus it is the largest nursing program in Michigan. THey accept 216 students a year plus this year they accepted an additional 30 for an accelerated program. It is very competitive though, the GPA cut off this year was a 3.774 and I think a 3.98 for the accelerated program. Look into it for this year (you apply in December) and the GPA only includes 11 classes (nutrition, micro, anatomy and physiology, and humanities course, a phys ed course, polisci, psy, sociology, and english 1 and 2) Plus if you go this summer, you will have 2 semesters to make up classes you got lower grades in :D

Thanks! I will look into it!

It's very HARD! like everyone else said either it's by point or a waiting list..@ Macomb they told me you have to take the test to get into the nursing program(hesi) and even then you have to be one of the 1st 800 to sign up and then based on your score from that and your g.p.a/ AND pre req's only 100 ppl are picked out of the 800 that took the test!!! and you can only take the test in July--(don't quote me) but it's only done once a yr for fall class..I'm just going out of state it's cheaper and NO WAITING LIST! My cousin just graduated from nursing school and she was on the list for 2yrs. --I don't want to wait that long but GOOD LUCK!

NMU - Northern Michigan University. Yeah, its a boring place in the middle of nowhere, but there's no wait list, no TEAS test, not too many pre-reqs, and your pretty much guaranteed to get in with GPA as low as maybe 3.4 or so. Some have gotten in with lower, but there's no guarantee. If you want into a BSN program with as little hoops as possible, this is the place to go. Oh, and its not too expensive and they offer scholarships to ppl. with decent GPAs and transfer students. Good luck :)

Thanks Felice and Marie! Felice, where are you looking into out of state? :)
