I'm trying to get into the EMT cert program at MDC(only because I heard every other school offering the program is horrible) but there's SO much to do in order to even get into it. You have to take the CPT test, then get into the First Responder program which is 7 weeks long, then graduate that, then apply for the EMT program which is 200 hours, then graduate and finally take your test.
The program I looked at in Philly at a hospital had no pre-reqs other than an english/reading comprehension test and it's only 13 weeks long. The end. That sounds MUCH better but the class is full and wont start again until January. Since I'm still in Miami I was thinking about just doing it here at MDC but it seems it's going to take me longer here.
I just want to get into the field and work while in nursing school so that I can have some sort of experience in healthcare while going to school.
I know this is a Nursing forum but are there any EMTs here that went to MDC that possibly went into nursing??? Is it a good program? Are there any shorter programs at any other accredited schools?
Whats the job market like? I know the pay isn't great but it's something while I'm in school and as long as I have a job I can't complain. Now I WILL complain if I do this and CANT find a job! lol
