Hello to all of you. I give you all props for the contribution you've brought to hospitals throughout the US. I'm new to this board and need to ask a few questions to fill a requirement at Ferris State University in Michigan.
They are for any clinical nurse to answer. As follows:
1. What are your Major Responsibilities?
2. What was the required preparation (schooling) for your job?
3. Do you think that there is growth opportunties in your job market?
4. What would you change about your job?
Also your name along with your job title and the name of the organization that hired you would be helpful. I understand that some of you do not want to give out that information, and that is fine too.
Thanks much! :)

1. Provide for emotional, physical, spiritual, and healthful well-being of my patients. This includes (but is not limited to): be the doctor's eyes and ears and report changes in patient status to him/her, passing meds and following up on (in)effectiveness and/or side effects of said meds, consult w/ a transdisciplinary team members as needed, carry out doctor's orders (or ensure that the orders are carried out by others as needed), supervise other staff members (i.e. CNA staff), provide physical/emotional comfort to patients and their families. (I think that I could go on and on and on here but won't....is it too late???......lol)
2. You can become an RN w/ 2 yrs of schooling after finishing up pre-requisites.
3. Definitely there are multiple opportunities for growth in this field. One of the great things about nursing....if you get bored or burned out....there is ALWAYS another area of nursing that you can go into. Also, w/ additional schooling, I have the opportunity to teach, be in management, nurse practioner, CRNA.
4. Many choices here but if I had to choose only one it would have to be ensure kick-butt staffing levels so I can be the kind of nurse I want to be (i.e. spend time talking to patients, take time to give them a proper bath, see to their every need - refer to #1).
My name is Stacey D, RN (Associate Degree)
Hired by Blue Ridge Health Care System
Hope that is what you were looking for. And just FYI - I have been a nurse now for 12+ years and I STILL love it!!!! If I won the country's biggest lottery and never HAD to work again....I would still be nursing....even if I had to pay a hospital to let me work! But of course, I would only work the hours I wanted to work....LOL
Thank you Stacey! :)
