Any remedy if failed Visa Screen?

Dear all:

I am going to start my Visa Screen. I would like to know what can be done if I did not pass the Visa Screen. For example, if CGFNS did not think my eduation is equivalent to that in the US. In that case, would it be possible for me to take some classes to remedy for that? Or does it help if I am going to get a degree in Nursing here in the US? But CGFNS is 'screening' my past education! I know I can take TOEFL as many times as possible, but I can not change the past!

By the way, I have passed NCLEX and started my immigration procedure that requires Visa Screen. I have an Associate Degree from China. My concern is that would be an Associate Degree meet the educational requirement of Visa Screen?

You may have some difficulties with the Associate program since China does offer 4 year programs. Example, in Thailand, the two year nurses are called technical nurses, they are not considered registered nurses over here.

CGFNS evaluates each nurse on an individual basis.

Which state accepted your credentials for sitting for NCLEX?

Did you state that on your application, that puts things in your favor that a BON accepted your credentials and that you passed NCLEX. But I still cannot make any guarantee.

Are you currently attending school in the US for a BSN?

Thank you very much for your information. I would like to go on some details regarding your questions.

1. China does offer 4-year programs, but it did not around my time of schooling. I graduated in 1984.

2. CA accepted my credentials. I have been in US for 7 years and have accepted an offer as a RN here.

3. I am going to attend school in the US for a BSN soon. Regarding the equivalence of my eduction, even my lawyer did not make any comments. My lawyer did not and may not do anything about the visa screen and that might be the reason he did not say anything about it. Again, will my future BSN here help in my case if I obtain it before Visa Screen is needed?

Let's back up for a moment. If you have been in the US for seven years what type of Visa are you currently on? That is what I need to know before I can answer any other questions for you.

All you can do is submit your documents and see if they are approved.

Since you are from China, one area that you may not have hadwas psych or mental health nursing. Some schools offered it and some did not. Did yours?

That would be your biggest problem. CGFNS evaluates each application on a case by case basis. Have you already had all of your documents submitted?

Of course having a BSN from the US would make things easier for you. But I would go ahead and see if they accept your program. Was it called an Associates degree or a Diploma? If the Diploma, you actually have a better chance. At least from what I have seen............

Thank you for your quick response. It is called 'diploma'. Would you mind giving a little bit detail of 'a better chance' with a 'diploma'?

Many of the Diploma programs have been accepted. Again they review each on a case by case basis. Did you have a psych rotation in your program? That is going to be your biggest worry, because if not, you will definitely have to take that class in an approved nursing program. You can do that in the US.

Diplomas were the highest level offered at the time that you went to school.

It is actually NOT the same as an ADN.
