I just got accepted to the University of Illinois at Chicago's BSN Program and just wanted to see what advice you all have in terms of how to prep before the program starts in August. I feel like if I just relax these new few months I'd be wasting time. Are there any books you read prior to starting your nursing classes? Thanks!

I read "On death and Dying" by Elizabeth Kubler Ross. It describes the grieving process, which I found to be incredibly helpful. In your clinicals, and throughout nursing profession you will see people in every phase of the grieving process. And not just grieving death, with illness there is a lot of grieving the life they used to have and don't now because of illness.

It won't help you to pass nursing school though, that takes solely hard work and dedication.

Good luck!!!

I'd review A&P, Micro, Psych, etc. and make sure your basic math skills are adequate for dosage calc. Keep the pace leisurely, take lots of breaks, and find time for other activities. If you don't really need to review those topics, move on to vital signs, nursing process, etc. If your fitness isn't ideal, you could also take time to work on your strength & flexibility.

get some rest. NS is balls to the wall intense. not hard, just intense & lots of work. you'll need to be well rested haha. :)

I agree with, Pneumothorax. I would also add saying goodbye to your friends and family. Socially and mentally, you may be unavailable to them. :)
