It is so amazing how long it take s to get your license endorsed here.. They informed me that they meet everyother month and they don't get to approve them all, in the 2 days that they do meet.. So it could be the middle of January before I can work in Ga.. This is so sad.... Just wanted to vent a little bit since I have a job waiting on me to get approved and until then I have to work as a CNA to bring home ends meat...

I feel your pain! It took me over three months to get my license through endorsement from the Georgia BON. I started calling every day and all I got was the run-around. Very disheartening when you consider the shortage!
The thing that real amazes me is my florida my CNA license only took 3 weeks to change over to GA.. I know they have to be careful, but really this state is in major shortage, at least the area I'm in, and I'm already doing all the orination and I walk with the nurses watching them give med's, and chart , this way when Ga does approve I can hit the floor that day.. I just can't believe they meet only every other month and only on 2 days at that..
Still sad ..Dawn

i feel your pain, i put my endorsment in about 1 month ago, when i called they said that it will be the 15 and 16 of jan for endorsement and for me to call on the 19th for my answer. if they have taken this long and come back to say no for an endorsement, they need a butt wipen for real. i am sitting around bored to death waiting for my license. ga is the only state i know that wont let you work before endorsment, it is even against the law for you to even get an RN interview without the license, funny uh. i have california RN license. by the way, what hospital are you working at. i applied at palmyra.

I also have a California RN license and am planning on moving to Georgia in about a year. I know I will probably take a beating when it comes to wages but Im going anyway. So, if it takes that long to endorse to Georgia should I send in my application while still in California? Maybe 3 months before I move? Thanks to anyone who can answer this.

In 1990 I had the same problem with the GA Board of Nursing: I commuted for several weeks back and forth to Jacksonville, FL to keep the bills paid. At that time ('Don't know about current rules...) the board was supposed to issue a temporary liciense within ten days of the application date.
After waiting several weeks, and making several phone calls to apparently disinterested staff, I asked who in GA State Government had the administrative oversight of the Board of Nursing. At that time it was The Secretary of State, Max Clelland (sp?). (He is off to bigger and better things.) I sent a registered letter to Mr. Clelland, listing details of the board's lack-luster performance. I also sent a copy to the BON via registered mail: Within three days of the date on which the board received my registered letter, I had my liciense in my hand.
It is, I think, important to keep a log of all contacts when dealing with these types of problems: I had names and dates, and I did use them.
When adopting a Korean infant, a similar approach worked well for me when the immigration folks were dragging their feet, except I made personal contact with my US Senator's Executive Assistant, who made a phone call to the responsible individual in the INS.
Perhaps this approach will work for you. I think that if government offices could be sued for mal-practice, their insurance premiums would be out of sight!
Good luck!

Have you heard back yet from the Board? I put my paperwork in earlier this month and am trying to gauge how long of a wait I'm going to have.
