Any Nys NPs

Hello all I'm soo frustrated!! I've been looking for online FNP programs but of course selfish New York State has blocked most if not all out of state programs from practicing in the state unless they have a instate campus. & I don't want a costly Nys school as I plan to pay for @ least 50%+ of my schooling.

So my issue now is where to attend? I've looked into Suny Brockport but I cant get much info on there scheduling as I plan on & hv to wrk full time (3 13hr shifts/wk no wkends but on call once a wk). I've looked @ Suny Stoneybrook & it seems as if they only have the Adult program online . Suny Buffalo has the DNP which is a whopping $90,000 for the entire program which I think is a bit much.

If you go to nys dept of education website and then to higher ed you can search approved programs. Currently the only online programs approved are Frontier and Samford. U of Cincinnati was approved and was taken off (?) and there is another listed but when you look at schools website it states it only accepts students from certain states, NY not being one. From what I was told by NY it is illegal to complete clinicals in nys for a program that is not approved.HthKim

Thanks for the information!!! I will definitely check them out. U of Cincinnati told they were no longer approved by 4 states & of course NY was 1 of them...Graceland advised be that because of the new law they werent approved because of the campus maybe the advisor misspoke but whatever the case maybe I will check out frontier & Samford

I would suggest that you contact the NYS Board of Nursing directly. I quickly read through the requirements for NP licensure and didn't see any changes to that effect listed. I graduated 3/31/12. There are still several students from my school in NY finishing their clinicals so that would be incredible if it were true. Let me know what you find out because if that is true that would sure limit access to care in NYS.

Right now I'm just going by what 3 different schools told me. I am still researching but I am trying to also get information from real students that's why I came to this forum...thanks for the information

Specializes in ICU.

Also in case you didn't see my reply to your other post, look into D'youville. The fnp program is 1-2 days a week on Thurs, Fri. I considered it but its a 2 hr drive each way for me which is why I'm looking online.

I did & thank u again....I live in buffalo & was accepted to Dyouville but after doing some configurations with my budget it's just too expensive & I'm still paying loans of from my ADN(since I attended a private college) so I plan 2 pay a portion of my tuition out of pocket with min student loans & God willing some scholarships & grants :)....checked out Frontier tuition & it's very reasonable @ this point... I'll be checking out Samford next
