Any Nursing students out there who's had difficulty?

Published

First off, thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have a.. erhm.. situation. I'm starting my second quarter for Nursing school, and I must say it is hard as heck! I was disappointed in myself when I got straight B's the first quarter of the program because I've never gotten a 3.0 before (before getting in the program, my pre-req GPA was a 3.9). The only reason for why I'm disappointed is because I tried really hard to study for my courses and I couldn't manage to get an A for any one course. I plan on going to grad school several years after becoming an actual RN (hence, the main reason for why I'm being really sensitive about a 3.0). :smackingf I know it's only the first quarter, but what if I get mostly B's in most of my Nursing courses for the upcoming quarters to come? My professor even told me that top notch grades are important especially for preceptorship in the 3rd year.. and this preceptorship will be very important for me in getting into ICU (which is where I would like to work in).

So, to get to my point.. is there any Nursing students out there who was able to bring their grade up starting from a low starting point? If so, how did you manage and what were your tactics/strategies?

Thanks for letting me vent, and for any advice you guys have. :stdnrsrck:

When you said you didn't need the tutoring and you go anyways, what do you pick to brush up on? and is it one on one tutoring?

I haven't started nursing school yet... hopefully I'll start this fall. I am told at my school, there is no such thing as an A because no one gets them...

I did not read all the replies but have you tried tutoring? I sign up for it every semester regardless of whether or not I need it or not but in just about every situation I have needed it. I know time is hard to come by so I get my tutoring on weekends which ruins the weekend but the tutoring is well worth it. Good luck.

I barely have time for tutoring. I commute to school which is an hour away, so 2 hours gets taken out of my day for study time. I work weekends. On Sunday, I drive an hour to reach my hospital, pick a patient, and do a careplan. The day after I have to wake up at 4 AM for clinicals (which end around noon for me). On Tuesdays, I go to school for regular classes then have to wake up the next day around 4 AM as well for clinicals. Thursday, I go to school for regular courses. And I actually have a sim lab session this Friday.

So yeah, I'm busy.. too busy to even do anything else. I don't think I need tutoring though.. I think for me, it's just a matter of cramming everything in on the last minute since I get so busy with careplans that it leaves little time for studying for regular courses.

Sometimes I wonder what I've gotten myself into since I"m still so young (20 years old right now).. but then I go see my patient and they are the ones making me realize for why I wanna be the nurse I wanna become. I find it worth it in the end.

It's actually really do-able. You just really have to work your butt off for the A. You have to be prepared to study EVERY DAY. Unfortunately for me I don't have time to study every day since I have so much other things going on..and I stress over it just because I know I wanna go to anesthesia school and the competitive GPA is around 3.5.. I beat myself too much about getting straight B's so far.. and the only reason for why I do is because I've planned my life ahead of me in great detail, hoping that I become successful in my goals.
