Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi I'm in my cna class now I'm in ohio and I will soon be taking my state test and skills test. I was just wondering what skills did you have to take and did you pass or fail on the first try and can you provide some good tips. I know I have the written test down pack but my nerves will probably get in the way of the skills test.

I am in washington - I don't remember what skills I had on my test but I did not pass it the first time. I failed passive range of motion of a leg - apparently I didn't move through the whole motion? I did tell the examiner that my partner's leg was really stiff and I didn't want to injure him by pushing his leg beyond it's range of motion, but I still was docked enough points to not pass that skill.

I took the exam again about 1.5 months later and passed just fine. My second time over 75% of the students testing were there for 2nd or 3rd attempts which I though was a little weird. I kind of felt like the agency was failing people for extra money of retesting. That being said I was a lot calmer when I went to restest because I knew what to expect, so that made it a better experience.

As for tips, practice the skills on a friend or classmate between when your class ends and you are able to test. Also there are bunch of youtube videos of CNA skills I watched several of those to brush up before testing - though be forewarned each state may have slightly different ways to preform a skill, preform it the way you've been taught if it differs from what is shown in the video.

The written part is easy. I failed the skills my first time but passed the second. I was really nervous. If you have the handout that will be most helpful and updated videos for your state on YouTube. All the best

I passed both the skills evaluation, and the written test on my first try. For the skills evaluation I had to perform the following: Hand washing, Bed Bath, Ambulate a client with the assistance of a gait belt, assist with feeding, and finally count and record a radial pulse.

I'm in NC and passed both on the first time. I went where my peers before me suggested and my classmates and I lucked out with a really laid back instructor. The written was pretty straight forward although I think one girl had failed it for her second time. My skills were hand washing, measuring urinary output, bed bath on one side, transferring to wheel chair and assist with ambulatory. I forgot at one point to have my partner check the water temperature but I remembered half way through and told her I should have and then did that part of the skill before I proceeded. Not too bad. It was definitely stressful since I put a lot of pressure on myself to pass so I could be on the registry in time to apply for my RN program deadline.

I passed the first time. The skills I had were hand washing (I believe everyone has to do that in my state), catheter care, feeding, and range of motion on the shoulder, elbow and wrist. Good luck :)
