Shadowing NP's
Not sure how helpful this is but I have had an opportunity to meet several NP's and PA's by volunteer work. I applied last year at a hospital and got placed in the Heart ICU. I'm constantly around RN's, doctors and all sorts of medical staff. Some days are too busy to converse with the NP's but I have had an opportunity to ask them questions about their field and career choice. It might be an opportunity to even shadow some. It really depends. I've heard of some people just scheduling appointments with them too and asking them then. That way, at least they are being paid for that time. Good luck. Hope you get the opportunity to shadow an NP.

"Don't Work" Isn't An Answer
Thank you. I've always had and wanted to work during school. I'll admit, it had been difficult not to be envious of those who complain about how they are going to study all night and your are sitting over there wondering if you'll even have an opportunity to open a book before 10. But, for me it's worth it knowing that a little financial stress can be alleviated. I can focus better. Are there times where those people will do better or score higher than you? Probably. But it'll give you confidence knowing you can hang in there, support your family and go to school. Especially if you want to further your education someday. Good luck to everyone who does have to work. It's tough but definitely doable.

JCC ADN Program 2015 NC
No, I haven't. I'm thinking I didn't make it because they changed the timing on the courses where they had to be 5 years or newer. I did get accepted into SCC and that was my backup plan. I've emailed and called but about a week ago, they hadn't totaled anything up for me. I didn't want to pester anyone so I'll call next week probably to see if they know when letters will be going out. I just need to know how to plan the next 2 years of my life. I feel like I'm stuck in limbo until the end of May.

Dealing with self doubt
I agree. It would be concerning if you were not worried. I know it is definitely manageable. I'd put a lot of time into making schedules and chore lists and making sure my husband and family could know how and where to help out at once you get into school. I have a coworker right now who has 4 small kids at home and managed to work a couple of weekends in the month. Hands down to all of you super moms out there!

Any nursing assistants???
I'm in NC and passed both on the first time. I went where my peers before me suggested and my classmates and I lucked out with a really laid back instructor. The written was pretty straight forward although I think one girl had failed it for her second time. My skills were hand washing, measuring urinary output, bed bath on one side, transferring to wheel chair and assist with ambulatory. I forgot at one point to have my partner check the water temperature but I remembered half way through and told her I should have and then did that part of the skill before I proceeded. Not too bad. It was definitely stressful since I put a lot of pressure on myself to pass so I could be on the registry in time to apply for my RN program deadline.

JCC ADN Program 2015 NC
I have a question regarding points for Johnston Community College (JCC). I think a couple of years ago, the points breakdown sheet was listed on the website for students to evaluate themselves. However, I've done everything I can think of to find the breakdown again to no avail. I've used internet time capsule, emailed faculty and searched in my downloads folder. Does anyone know how they total points? I have a 4 year science related degree already. However, my A&P's aged out. I made an 86.7% overall on the TEAS and had a 3.4 GPA from my previous university. I'm sure this is just bugging me because we are having to wait until May/June to figure out if we got in or not. However, I've been accepted to my other school and now I'm really curious as to where I stand with JCC too! Agghh! The wait is killing me!

Hello, Im going for JCC/NC or SCC ADN Fall 2015 What classes/ entrance exams do you have left I finished a bachelors in science about 6 years ago so no classes currently. I finished getting my CNA in January and completed my TEAS in February. When will you begin submitting applications? I completed and submitted mine in Feb. How many programs will you be applying to? 2 Have you already been accepted into the program? Unexpectantly, yes. I was accepted into the SCC program last Friday. I have to wait to see if I get into my preferred school the end of May/beginning of June.

Testing Tomorrow?
Just took mine last week. Just pace yourself and read carefully. Little things like greatest to least vs. least to greatest can trip you up. Know things like the relationship between kinetic and potential energy and subject verb agreement. But most of all, relax! I did some deep breathing as I was waiting to enter the exam room. The online exams were more difficult than the actual exam. Pay attention to your time and know when to mark a question as one you just need to go back to. I scored an overall of 86.7% which was better than I thought. Good luck!

JCC- Johnston Community College ADN 2015 Program
I took my TEAS V today. I was so nervous that I kept forgetting things I needed to get into the exam. I scored 86.7% overall, 97th percentile for the program. I'm hoping this makes me competitive enough to have a fighting chance! So now begins the long waiting period until we can stalk our mail carriers for those acceptance letters!

TEAS V Practice v. Test
I just took the TEAS V today. My score overall score was 86.7% which put me in the 97th percentile at JCC. I hit my goal of 85% or higher to be competitive. Now begins the long wait for acceptance letters!!! I bought the ATI Study manual and studied it from front to back. I did both practice tests in the book and bought the two online. I scored 83% and 90% on the book exams. For the online practice exams, I scored 78% and 74%. I focused on my problem areas with youtube videos and lots of visual illustrations to help me remember the concepts. Can't emphasize enough to take all the practice tests that you can AND time yourself. I studied off and on for about 4 months.

JCC- Johnston Community College ADN 2015 Program
I am applying. All I have left is to take my TEAS V. This crazy weather has interfered with my original testing date so they have extended the makeup days into March. I'm freaking out! I'm trying to take advantage of the extra week to study but it made my week more nerve-racking. I've taken three practice tests and I'm just ready to be done. Since JCC is doing the alternative schedule this year, there are about 20 more seats available. I think the day schedule will accept 50-60 so that puts it around 70-80 students. I have a 4 year degree in a science major but that was over 5 years ago so my A & P will not transfer, nor will my Micro. I really don't mind retaking these since they were my top two favorite courses that I took at Campbell. I had a 3.4 GPA there. Do you know if they are still using a strict points-based system for admissions? I have looked everywhere online and the only one I can find regarding points breakdown is with the sonography programs. I thought I had seen one with the ADN before but I'm either confusing it with the sonograph or its been taken down. Has anyone else completed the admissions process for JCC?

Get the Bsn or leave nursing?
I've dealt with this same dilemma since I got out of college over 5 years ago. I originally wanted to become a pharmacist, then saw how much they are on the phone with insurance providers and Dr's offices and changed my mind. I instead graduated with a 4 year degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences but life happened and I've been working for my family's business behind a desk for 5 years now. My parents are trying to discourage me from going into the medical field but it's all I've ever really wanted to do. They talk about a friend who is an MD and trying his best to get out of the medical field. I understand his position as a private healthcare provider in a small community. Their argument is healthcare is going to crash and burn and they don't want to see me in that field when it does. However, I also tell them that if healthcare crashes, I'm pretty sure other fields are going to be affected too. Thankfully, my husband supports me in going back to school. I understand my parents concerns but I'm tired of being behind a desk. I'm too ADD for this! lol. I have two applications pending for ADN school and if this falls through, I'm just going to keep trying. I'm 28 now and hoping to be at least in school again by the time I'm 30. Also, since I have a degree already in P.S., maybe I can have a unique career option of working in the clinical research area. I am very curious/worried about the future as well. I don't think anyone really knows whats going to happen but I'm tired of pretending like others do. I'm just going to go for it and hopefully I can work my way up to an NP someday. I'm a person of faith and so far, everything has worked out. I've been through some difficult personal circumstances as a teenager and adult. The one thing I have learned is good can always come from the bad and unforeseen things that are inevitably around the corner. Life is full of unknowns and risks even for the most well-layed plans. Good Luck with your endeavors either way!

TEAS V Practice v. Test
I scored 78% on the practice ATI exam too! I'm hoping and praying its the same or better on the real exam. I take it in two days!!! I've gone through the ATI Manual, used quizlet and found lots of youtube videos on my problem areas. I also have a 4 year degree in a science major, pharmaceutical to be specific. I will update once I get my scores back.
