:) Yeah, I miss them too. And taking care of patients from the neck up only.NO. I worked 9 years as ophthalmic tech but once I received RN license it was nearly impossible to find job in that area. I miss eyeballs.
Now I know, it CAN be done. I was hired at an ophthalmology ambulatory surgery center on Thursdsay. :) 14 eye surgeons. Do your research. Call some local ophthalmologists and find out where they do surgery than dust off the resume and market yourself with your previous eye experience. It took me two months to finally do it (I left bedside nursing two months ago, worked part time at another ambulatory surgery center) and I am now at an eye center.NO. I worked 9 years as ophthalmic tech but once I received RN license it was nearly impossible to find job in that area. I miss eyeballs.
I'm a COA and am very interested in nursing. At first, I just wanted to take some nursing courses to be a better allied health technician. But the more I have learned, the more I want to know about he real life part of the job. I do still love eyeballs and am interested in becoming an ophthalmic nurse. What is it like?? Working at a surgery center sounds very interesting!! :)

I have previous experience as a certified ophthalmic assistant prior to becoming an RN and now have 3 1/2 years of bedside nursing experience in Telemetry. I am currently researching becoming an ophthalmic RN. I was wondering if any members here on allnurses.com are in the ophthalmology field.
