Any nurses in Asheville?

Specializes in ER.

My oldest son, his wife and my grandson, live in Asheville. Fortunately,  they are okay, and after a couple of days of no electricity, no running water, and no communications, they were able to find a route out of the city to a hotel north of Charlotte. Electricity is supposed to be back on Friday so they are returning them but they will be without running water for probably two or three weeks. My son was walking down to a creek with a bucket. FEMA, fortunately, will be helping with expenses.

Things are as bad as they show on the news. Are there any nurses out there working in the hurricane Zone? Asheville is devastated. How are they handling things in the hospitals and nursing homes? I saw on the news that people were unable to get prescriptions refilled, and there will probably be more deaths because there are no communications to call 911 and get emergency services. A lot of roads are washed out, there are sinkholes everywhere, downed trees blocking roads, very little cell phone service.

Fortunately I postponed my annual trip there that I usually take in September or October. I was planning to go sometime this Winter instead. Hopefully things will be back in order somewhat by then.

Asheville is one of my most favorite places and I'm just so sad to see what has happened. I wish we could hear from the nurses working in the hospitals there and maybe do something to help. I was supposed to go back in the Spring but I fear it's going to take at least a year to get any sort of normalcy back.  The River Arts district will probably take even longer.
