Hi Everyone,
I'm a new RN who's been looking for a job since late 2008. I feel so frustrated and defeated by this grueling job search. Everyday I apply to one, two, maybe three positions, really whatever I come across. I've applied to pretty much all the hospitals in NYC and some nursing/rehab/LTC facilities and still no luck. I'm just checking in with other new grads to see if it's just me that's going through this rough time. Hopefully, things will get better.
Not sure how you feel about moving to upstate NY but I am in Rochester and just started a new job at a LTC facility. My administrator is trying to find RNs for immediate hire........Let me know if you are interested. Send me an PM and I can give you the name of the facility, etc....
pls i am looking for a job i got licensed since dec 08 and i am still looking a job pls can you help me
Congrats quinnie50! That's great news! You must be soooo happy Are you going to be working in NYC? Maybe you can get me a job now, lol!!
ez2000, congrats on passing your nclex! I have applied pretty much everywhere in the city, from LTC facilities, rehab facilities, hospitals, homecare, even blood banks! But don't get discouraged-your job search might be much better than mine. Everyone is different so don't get too worried. People are slowly but surely getting jobs so just keep truckin'!
psychrninny, thank you soo much for your help. Unfortunately, Rochester would be a bit far for me and moving is defintely not an option for us right now. I do appreciate your heads up though.
SweetGurl, I think I am gonna start applying in the Westchester area. I can do upstate NY as far as Westchester. Good luck with your search.
thanx everybody...i still am in disbelief that someone actually hired me...my job is in sussex county in a small community hospital...i will be working in med surg and because it is so small the nurses do a little of everything, like telemetry, respiratory, chemo, and so on...however, i seriuosly will be making about $20,000 less than my friends who got jobs close to the city or in the city....i do know that 2 of my freinds got jobs at valley hospital in bergen county, nj...they have a training program for new grads that starts in august, and the $ is amazing...i seriously only got this job because i knew somebody in human resources..my job posting said that 1-2 years experience was required and i needed to be iv certified which i am going to be trained in...so it's not impossible....i honestly think that if you don't know somebody you are not going to get an interview...so network, network, network! so hang tough everybody and keep in touch:nurse:
I am looking for a job in Binghamton and I can't find work. The job fair at my school was pathetic!
Oh boy... I know at least 5 people who are planning on doing the accelerated program in Binghamton, and staying in the area to gain some experience. Including myself. Is it really that bad? I earned my first degree from BU and figured that getting a job as a nurse in that area would be a sure bet... I've been in contact with Binghamton General to try and get a foot in by working as a nursing assistant while doing my prereqs... They didn't allude to any surplus of nurses in the area, but I never really asked.
Are you graduating this year? Have the hospitals not really had a presence at the job fairs? Geez, I'm getting really nervous.
harlequin b ...don't be nervous...just do the best you can in school...and start networking early (especially in your clinicals)...if you can get a nursing assistant job...take it...it is hard with the accelerated program...but try to get your foot in the door...honestly, i thought that i would just graduate and hospitals would be knocking on my door...but it wasn't the case...the hospital that i got a job in is not my dream hospital but that is okay...times will change...and i'm sure you will be fine by the time you graduate...hospitals were at job fairs but the positions for new grads were very very limited...good luck with nursing...i am sure that you are going to shine...i still think that there is no better job than being a nurse...wish i figured that out in my 20s instead of my 40s...lol

i pass my nclex and i just found out today but reading from your post..i tend to get discourage. anyways, i like to asked if your search for job is narrowed only for acute care hospitals or have you extend it towards facilities like Home care, nusing home etc? thanks!
