Hi All!!
I wanted to start a new thread to see if there are any other military spouses out there. I am about to start my last semester of prereqs for the BSN program close to Fort Hood. I am so excited and would love to hear everyone else's story, successes, concerns, etc.
I am a little nervous about getting hired once I graduate bc the chance of PCSing. Also, I hope transferring my license from state to state is not to difficult. :)
I think being a nurse and living the military life is great, imo, because nurses are needed every where. Teaching is another good option but we all know nurses are cooler...
HA! I was originally going to school for teaching; but, since TX has put a hold on hiring public teachers, I thought I should look into other careers. The responsibility nurses have terrified me at first. Then, after I took A&P, I realized this is the perfect profession for me!

Army wife here, also stationed at Fort Hood :)
Transferring your license wouldn't be that difficult. You would have to pay the state BON some money and look at whatever requirements they may have (for example, New York requires you to take a class on child abuse and infection control; Texas does not. Texas requires the Jurisprudence exam but New York does not, etc). It may take some time for your license to transfer but other than that it shouldn't be a problem. Also look into the NLC or Nurse Licensure Compact. Keep in mind though that your permanent address that is on file with the BON needs to be in a compact state or else you won't be awarded a compact license.
I went to school in Ohio and I knew I was moving to Texas so I opted out of an Ohio RN license and just got one for Texas instead. My husband was at Fort Leonard-Wood, MO (also called Fort Lost-in-the-Woods, Misery
) and then had orders to PCS to Fort Hood afterwards. I passed my NCLEX in March but didn't move to Ohio until May. For awhile my permanent residence was in Ohio with my Texas license so I did not have a compact license....as soon as I moved to Texas and changed my address, they awarded me a compact license.
