Any info on UCSF's Entry Level Master's?

I wish I could help you. I do like where you are going to school. Love Santa Barbara! I was going to take ajob at the VNA but decided to wait. It was a traveling job.

I am doing an on line/correspondence masters program through Clayton college. I hope someone can help you.

UCSF is consistently ranked within the top 5 nursing schools in the country -- often ranked #1 in graduate programs. Also, if I were you and were able to invest the time, etc. in the Master's program, I would definitely do that as you will finish with a higher degree and not have to go back to school yet again to get a Master's later.

Wow, I wish the schools in my area let you get a Masters in nursing with a Bachelors in another subject. I'm doing an accelerated BSN next year.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sorry I really don' t have any advice because I didn't know that was even an option at some schools.

Hi. I too would like to get into UCSF. I went to their info meeting a couple weeks ago and this is the main stuff I found out:

For the MEPN program, which you are interested in, it takes 3 years. One to pack in your BSN material, then the next two years you are getting your masters along with the other students who already have a BSN. You absolutely need a 3.0 gpa to get in. You have to take the GRE, have recommendation letters, and write a goal statement. During the first year, you CANNOT work. Unless you are crazy.. haha yeah its full time. They pack what I did at SJSU in three years into one year for MEPN. The cost is about 24k your first year, 12k 2nd and 3rd years. There are lots of specialties, you can view these on their website. They take 76 MEPN student each year, and about 150 RN-MSN students. They said one thing they like to see are people with lots of community involvement. Volunteering, etc. After I get my BSN I plan to volunteer for a year to add it to my resume. Also when you write your goal statement, make it look like you are definite on the specialty you want. Midwifery fills up fast, and the priority goes to people who really want it, not those who list it as a second choice. Hope this helps.. good luck to both of us!

a friend of mine is in the program now. she really likes it. she just finished her first year, and passed her boards. she decided to take a year off to work before doing the MSN portion of the program, although that required special permission and is unusual. it is very pricey, but you probally know that already!

The decision do to acc. BSN vs. the direct entry programs is up to you. What is your eventual goal? For me, I want to do direct care for awhile, and then maybe get my MSN. I really feel I need to work as a nurse first, so decided to not do the direct entry program such as this (I have BA in Psych) it's really up to you.

Just a note: the UCSF program fufills requirements for the RN license BUT you don't get a BSN. You do get the Masters though.
