Hi I've had a family member suffer a stroke recently and he's basically been written off by the UP hospital and some of the doctors. He is running out of time at a nursing home he was recently placed in for rehab and desperately does NOT want to go to a VA home. I looked into Mary Free Bed online and they seem like a good and qualified facility. Anybody know anything about them such as, cost? Do the patients stay there? Staff attitudes? Admission screening process? Thanks for your help!!

MaryFreeBed insurance coverage is usually thru primary insurance (Meidicare/BC/etc.). estimated cost per day is about $2,000 a day give or take. Physicians charge separately thru their offices. Average length of stay for inpatient services for CVA person is about 16 days with expectations of home discharge. So at about 2 1/2-3 wks a home discharge with a minimum of 24 hr supervision would be expected. MaryFreeBed does acute rehabilitation only.....no long term placement. Specialty services include: spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, pediatrics. Tends to be a positive enviornment with all staff. Success rate gauged on outcome/ability to function in home enviornment. Admission screening is done by record for out of town referrals. For more information you can contact: 800.305.8893. Should have family able to come with during inpatient stay to learn what needs will be when discharged home.
