Oh, I plan on getting my RN and then my BSN for sure. I would just like to get my foot in the door somewhere while I'm in school. What I really want to do is perioperative nursing, but that's probably a little ways down the road.
If youre interested in perioperative, some places train their LPNs to scrub cases. so its worth a shot. Also, I know some ORs have LPNs in their Pre op admission areas. Good luck on your search.
Thanks for the answers everyone. Osceola County is kind of far for me.. so is Tampa and Ocala. I'm going to keep checking the hospital job postings every day to see if any LPN positions open up. On another note, does anyone know of any long-term care facilities that have higher acuity patients (trachs, vents, etc)? I know there's not many of those in FL. Or even hospice facilities that hire new grad LPNs.

I'm a recent LPN grad (have yet to take my boards). I was wondering if any of the hospitals around Central FL (Florida Hospital, Orlando Health, Central Florida Regional, etc.) still hire LPNs? From what I've heard, the answer is no. I've seen very, very few openings for LPNs on their websites and the openings I do see are for experienced LPNs only. I know as an LPN, my best job prospects are in nursing homes, however, I really want to do acute care, or even long-term care with patients that have higher acuities (trachs, vents, etc.) because I feel it would help me hone my skills as a new graduate. Pediatrics is out of the question for me, unless it's older adolescent children.. just not really my thing. Anyone know or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
