Any home health nurses??

Published

Im a labor and del. nurse with 5 years exp. looking to start doing home health. I would like to know what the pay is like and what companies are good to work for.

I have an interview with TLC but I unfortunately know nothing about them. They pay 43/visit, 50/admissioin and 45c/mi. I have no idea if that is average, low, etc. I did tell them that I wanted to stay in harf. co. and they want to send me to balti co./city b/c supposedly thats the only place they can get me a preceptor....does that sound like a BS to you?? Im sure no one wants to work in the city so of course they will try and get the new girl to go there, hehe.

Any advice/info would be appreciated!

I interviewed with this company in another state and found all involved to be rude and condescending with one exception. They were holding a job fair and were not making one effort to welcome the persons who were taking the time and effort to attend. One of the personnel made rude comments about me within earshot. I was tempted to write a letter to the corporate hq and tell them what I thought, but decided that no one there was worth my efforts. Won't look for employment with them again. Furthermore, you should have heard what they told me their rate of pay was for the position I applied for. That in itself was an insult.

hi there!

i actually work for TLC. they are a great company to work for!

i work for them prn. i get paid $43/visit and $84/admissions/recerts - oasis' (i'd double check on that $50 you were quoted).

HH is very lucrative and the wave of the future!

not only is it lucrative but it is very rewarding. i had OBGYN and ED experience before doing HH. i started it b/c of the flexibility that i needed after having my son.

You also know that TLC has just been purchased by another company, Amedesys (im pretty sure it's spelled like that). you can look them up on the internet. and i mean *just* purchased. i've heard it's a good thing. i think this could mean higher salaries (they pay their nurses and therapists more), laptops and being part of one of biggest if not the biggest (now) HH companies in the US.

I too work in Harford county and see my pts in a select # of zipcodes (around my house). as prn, you have that power!!! but i did too train w nurses in the city. i will once in a while, as a favor to the baltimore office, see a pt in the city - but it's few and far betw... (i work out of the bel air office). prn is GREAT as a HH nurse. but you do run the risk of not getting pts b/c they fill there FT employees up first. but it's never been a real issue for me (year and half in). (i also have a PT job doing women's health 12 hrs a week, and work prn as a forensics nurse examiner at Mercy). also, if you do fun into that probl you could always sign-up w another HH company like medstar or hopkins prn to fill in the gaps.

i hope this helps!

good luck! :nurse:

forgot to mention...

TLC only does medicare. so you won't see any Post-Partum pts if that's what you were looking for???

but you will at hopkins and i believe Medstar. so maybe a combo of both would be nice for you?!

prn is the best if you ask me.

but i have health benefits through my hubby....

Most HH agencies will give you disability and even contribute to a 401k/403b even as prn if interested.
