My uncle has liver cancer and according to the Doctor "a couple weeks" to live. He does not have insurance, obviously doesn't work anymore, and doesn't qualify for anything because he is 62. My sister and I have been relentlessly calling hospices here but no one will take him because he doesn't have insurance. It's sad. Any suggestions?

Have you tried finding a non-profit hospice in your area? I work for a small, non-profit hospice, and our policy is to never turn anyone away because of their inability to pay. We use our charitable donations for cases just such as your uncle's. I'm wondering if for profit hospices are different and that's who you've contacted so far. I'm not saying that for profit hospices don't give good care and meet their patients' needs, but it seems that the need to make money and keep the powers that be happy could have something to do with your uncle getting turned away by the hospices that you've contacted.
This is so sad. I really do hope that you can find someone to help your uncle. Our hospice would take him, but I'm guessing that you don't live in SE Michigan. If you do, please PM me and I will see if I can give you some names based on what county your uncle is in.

What state does your uncle reside in? Our hospice cares for all, insured or not.....
