Any grads/students from Assabet Valley LPN Program

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi there,

I am considering applying to the LPN program offered at Assabet Valley Voc in Marlboro. I would be interested in any grads or current students opinions of the program. I have taken the NET and am awaiting my interview.... Thanks! :D

Hey there!

I'm scheduled to take the NET Feb 11th. We are applying to the same program! I dont know anyone that has come from the program. If you don't mind can i ask you some questions?

1. What did they ask on your interview?

2. Are you a college graduate? GPA?

3. Do you know how full they are already for capacity?

4. Was the test hard and did you buy the recommended book from their website?

5. If you don't mind sharing are you male or female?

6. Do you have any other medicinal experiences?

7. What do you think makes you stand out from other applicants?

8. Have you applied to any other programs in the area?

Any info you could give would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi,

I just got early acceptance into the program last week - am so excited! The interview is pretty low key - no hard questions... what are you doing for work now, why do you want to go through the program, how did you find out about the program, etc.

I have no idea how full it is. I know that the steering committee met last week for the first time and accepted some early candidates. I am a female, early 40s, and have no healthcare experience. Was laid off last year from the IT field.

The test was not hard, imo. I got a 100% on the math and something a bit lower on the verbal. It reminded me of the SATs. I am a college grad but haven't been to school in years. I did not buy the book.

The test is a large part of how you get into the program. You need to score well. Then there is an essay, the interview, and I think if you live in the district that helps too. Did you go to the open house in December? That was very enlightening.

Well, good luck and let me know if you get in - would love to make a connection before school starts.

Hey, thanks for the information and good job on the NET! Here's some information about me. I am male early 20's and recent college graduate. I also have no medical experience but have enrolled in an EMT basics courses so by May i should be EMT certified. I took some time off after college and tried finding work but its tough right now. The reason why i want to do LPN is to gain medical experiences and give med school a shot. My gpa was not high enough so hopefully these experiences can substitute. I have some some pretty good references I like to think, two Phd professors and one MS. I guess its all up to my NET scores. I think i have a pretty good chance if the NET goes well but don't want to get my hopes up. Also from their last graduating class picture, it seems they lack male students so my guess is i just have score better then the other male candidates. Thanks again for sharing information!

Good luck! I went to the open house and I think there are 5 or 6 men in the class this year. There were definatley some at the open house checking it out. It sounds like you have a great background for it!

Hello again,

I just wanted to be sure only English and Math are graded on the test?

Are there basic science questions, and do you get a score back on those? Are they relevant to whether or not you get accepted?

Can you give me more information on the NET you took? The book i purchased only reviews the English and math sections. I want to do well on this and would like to know what kind of science questions are asked?

Thanks

Hi,

It's only english and math. Math is mostly fractions, decimals, and algebra. English is reading comprehension, spelling and grammer. No science - there is a section but they do not have you do it.

Good luck!

How long are the paragraphs for reading comprehension? Are any of them several paragraphs long?

What are the spelling and grammar sections like? The review book i have give no examples!!!

Hi All! I got early Accetance into the LPN program at Assabet! I start this fall! I can't wait. It would be nice to know some people on the first day, I'm so nervous! This is also going to be the first time my two youngest will be away from me (they will be going to the daycare right at the school). Also I know 2 people who graduated the program if you have any questions you would like me to send in thier direction :) Talk to you soon!

Hi there back!

Good to hear from you! I have three kids, the youngest will be going into Kindergarten, so know the concerns you might have with the childcare. I am really excited to start and even called the nursing office a few times trying to get details (what books we will have, what vaccinations to get, etc) but they seem pretty tight lipped. I guess we will find out everything come June. Did you go to the open house in December? It looks pretty exciting!

Cathy

No, I missed the open house in December. I was at the testing held in January (the one at night). That's great you won't have to pay for childcare, it is soooo expensive! I have a 6 yr old who will be in first grade in September, a three year old and a one year old. I am happy they will be at the school's childcare center, but at the same time, one of the rooms that we will be in is attached to the childcare room so it will be hard if I can hear them crying!! It will be worth it in the end :) I don't have any experience in the healthcare field either, but it is something I've always wanted to do. Are you in district? I am from Westborough.
