I am nervous and questioning if the school I have been working to get into for lpn schooling is either really unorganized or if I just didn't get into the program. Has anyone not received an acceptance letter from The Center for Allied Health and Nursing Edcuation in Tampa?
I have taken all the steps to get into the program and at the educational interview with the dean of the program she said I would get a letter by the end of the following week saying if I got in or not. I haven't received anything yet and I was calling them for days with no answer, which is really weird. Then all of a sudden on Thursday of last week the receptionist answered and said that my admissions person hasn't done them yet and will get them done.
I am worried that maybe I haven't gotten the letter yet because for some reason, even though this is a private technical school and I am paying out the wazoo for, I didn't get in. Another thing that I am worried about is that maybe this school is just really unorganized and maybe I should start looking for other private schools where I can still start this summer.
The program starts in less than a month and I still need to put the $500 deposit down for my seat, which is making things hard for me financially because I don't want to spend the money that I have put aside.

I just came from that school today with a friend who is interested in starting theLPN program. They seem to have a good program and they do some clinicals at Brandon Hospital but the fees are $18k.
Can I ask how do people afford the school? Outside of $4000 pell grant, I don't think that student loan covers all of the $14k difference. How was your financial aid structured if you don't mind and what made you chose this school over Galen or Concorde or Florida Institute?
Thanks
Actually when I checked Galen, the program is more expensive. I chose the program at this school for many reasons. The school is closer, less expensive, starts sooner, has only 1 entrance exam, last less time (I think), and has some fridays off (about 30%). This is a newer school that not so many people know about and doesn't have the amount of people that are applying to it like Galen. I actually got the acceptance letter from the school today, so I am very excited, and am glad to know that by next summer I can take the LPN NCLEX.
I never checked into Concorde or Florida Institute because at first I was looking at RN programs that were either regionally or nationally accredited, can you tell I wasn't being very picky?
Thanks for answering. I'm a 2nd semester nursing student at HCC myself. For my friend and a relative, we looked at Galen but the commute and the time structure days were factors that worked against not going there. We live in Brandon so going over the bridge every day and driving for nearly an hour in traffic was not an option. Also, their hours are to 4pm M-F so I agree with you.
I do like the fact that even though Allied Health is only 2 years, their main school in NJ is over a decade old and seems to have a good reputation.
How did you find the entrance test? Did you purchase the book? How was the math test? We spoke to one of the students there who loved it and to be honest, their simulators and mannequins are better than what we have at HCC lab. Most of our manniquins don't work and we dont have a simulated nursury or a computer simulated baby. I really like that they do some clinicals at Brandon hospital. Erwin Tech only goes to nursing homes.
However, that 18k is a lot to swallow even though it includes books and uniforms. I still think Galen is cheaper. I thought it was $16/$17k without books/uniform so it's about the same.
Looking forward to your answers.
The entrance exam was not as bad as I thought it would be. It only had reading and english, and I didn't buy the book. I wasn't really worried about getting a high score because it is a for profit school, like galen, so they don't go by gpa or ranking of the entrance exam. I didn't buy the study guide because I already had a book from B&N for the TEAS but barely looked at that one. It just depends on how long its been since you've had a math class.
For Galen, I might be wrong about the price. I'm not sure if they gave me the price of the program over the telephone. I didn't want to go there in person because its so far from me. I know that Keiser Career College's program is 24K.
The price was an issue for me for years! I went to HCC and did most of the pre-reqs for the RN program and then transfered to PHCC which had half the required pre reqs, but I did not get in to the RN or LPN program there. I wish I had just sucked up my pride and gone for LPN in the first place and tried one of the for profit schools for LPN, not RN. At least the pre reqs will be there when I apply for the LPN to RN bridge.
Any advice about being in nursing school? Any time management tips?
They told us that she has to take a math and english test. My relative has already completed Eng I and II and Beginning Algebra at HCC as well as AP1 &2 w lab, Micro, nutrition, med term, pyschology, sociology, etc
They quoted us $18k for the LPN class. I actually met a former student in the reception area and she told me that she was in the first class and she passed her Nclex on the first try- impressed.
Tips for Nursing School
As I am in the RN program, it's a bit different but here is what I will tell you:
1. Be organized
2. Don't put off studying
3. Pay attention in class to lectures- I took very littie notes but I listened intently- makes studying and review easier. HOwever, if your teacher tests more from lecture, then do take notes but also listen
4. Review work constantly so when it is time for test, you are not cramming
5. Practice clinical skills on friends, family members and lab time i.e BPpressure, pulse, etc
6. Steer clear of negative people
7. Review before class how to calculate meds
8. Don't wait to ask for help from the teacher if you don't understand something
9. Go out now, movies, dinner , make all of your appontments now because you hardly have time for yourself in nursing school
10. Always wash hands/foam in/foam out-
11.Surround yourself with positive people
12. Invest in a good LPN NCLEX Review book with Rationale that matches chapters or systems covered and study test questions in addtion to lecture material when studying for exams- this is what helped me the most and I got an A in my classes.
If you have taken pre-reqs at HCC, you can do this program- use the Fridays wisely- as down to relax but also to review and practice skills

I was thinking about taking this program as well, any advice for this school? How much is it compared to Galen? I live in Tampa as well and this school is a lot closer than Galen would be. Have you started classes yet?
