Any Excelsior students?

I would like to know if anyone in this forum is or has completed their ADN through Excelsior College (formerly Regents)?

If you have I would like to know your experience, good or bad and also what your background was prior to entering the Excelsior program.

I am considering this route for my ADN as my background is in diagnostic imagining and I cannot attend traditional daytime nursing programs in my area. Even if I could, they have a waiting list, some two years long.

I appreciate any and all correspondence.

I had been an LPN for about 23-25 years. I needed all my credits. Took 14 courses through Rue book Co. following Regents requirements, CLEP exams all passed, studied for my cpne, and FAILED due to the elimination of one word in my documentation, on my last patient of the weekend, in the last 15 minutes of the clinical! That was about 7 years ago, and could never get myself to go back. The stress was too much. I hope if you do this, you will be prepared for the stress. Good luck!

I know it's too late now, and this is a "what if" scenario, but why wouldn't you just take a CPNE seminar and retake your eval? It seems silly to burn all that time into something and just give up just because you actually fail what's essentially just another exam (albeit a big one).

I just can't imagine doing that myself. Granted, I'd no doubt be upset, but hell.. we all have to take a few hits.

That being said... to the OP: Be careful about going to Excelsior. I'm just an LPN student right now, but I was really gung-ho about doing the Excelsior route after getting my LPN license. Now, I think I'll just try to suck it up and do the local college's LPN-to-RN bridge program (which sucks for scheduling). The reason is that I plan on becoming a travel nurse after getting a few years' experience as an RN, but California (the biggest source of travel jobs, if I'm not mistaken) is basically telling new Excelsior grads to shove it, so there would be no way for me to work there with an Excelsior-backed license.

I'll probably do Excelsior for my BSN and possibly an MS in Clinical Systems Management and Nursing Informatics certification waaay down the road (assuming I don't get into CRNA school), but I'm keeping away from the Excelsior ADN like the plague.

Well to answer this question, yes and no. I was all set, received my acceptance letter from EC, sent in my $750 (or whatever the amount was) and was working on NC 1 when I had second thoughts. Not about the school but about myself and success with the CPNE. After much thought and sleepless nights, I went with DCN for the RN portion.

I am in the last 9 weeks of the RN program and I can say I can't wait for it to be over. It's been a rough road and the issues with DCN are making me weak! I will plug on because I am so close I can smell graduation. Then it's on to the NCLEX in the spring.

I was not able to get my money back from EC but that is the way it goes. Sometimes ya just have to go with your gut instinct and eat your losses.
