Any Excelsior Grads Here?

Did anybody earn their RN degree from EC? I am interested in their program but I heard that hospitals don't hire EC grads due to lack of clinical experience. I am a Respiratory Therapist and was wondering if my experience would count for anything. All suggestions, comments and advice are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Not an Excelsior grad but know a few. CT does accept Excelsior grads for licensure by exam. Excelsior requires healthcare experience prior to enrolling that's why no clinicals. Once you have that RN usually no problem especially with RT experience. Check the college's website out. They do accept RT's and many of your classes should count for credit, assuming you did RT at a college. Why would you want to be an RN? RT generally pays better and has more of a shortage than nursing.

I'm not in CT, but have had no problems with the EC degree.

I'd like to become an RN because I want to practice in the field of Anesthesia. In order to be a CRNA, I'd have to earn my RN. Fortunately I don't need another Bachelor's degree, just my RN. Local schools are way too competative GPA wise, and it is hard to get in traditional schools due to increased enrollment. Excelsior sounds ideal because it seems flexible and affordable. Like you said, my RT experience should help me a great deal. Another reason for my transition is because there is more opportunities for advancement in the field of nursing. What I'm looking for is more autonomy and as an RT, I'm limited to my scope of practice. Thanks for your response, I welcome any questions and/or advice.

Where are you from, Suesquatch? I hope not Georgia, I feel so bad for the nurses there that was enrolled in Excelsior. How long have you been a nurse?

I'm originally from Staten Island and moved to Ticonderoga four years ago. Both New York, so no worries.

I got my LPN license 6/2006, finished all the Excelsior courses in 12/2007, and passed the CPNE early 8/08. I take the NCLEX-RN on 11/10.

ventgurl, check into the Distance Learning Forum. There is a TON of Excelsior info there, and a lot of "attendees" and grads. I consider them to be my classmates.
