Hi there,

I am seriously thinking of getting my BSN through EC after (God willing) I finish my ASN. Have anyonf you done this already and how long did it take you? How many exams are there to complete in order to get your BSN?

Thanks! I would love to go into Oncology, but I think around my area you need a BS.

The BSN doesn't have that many exams; it's done based on courses, and I believe they range from 8 weeks to 15 weeks. There are only a couple of courses for which a student can do a test-out-style exam. If you download the current School of Nursing catalog, it has the info about the BSN. The BSN advisors will usually do a courtesy evaluation of your transcripts when you finish the ADN to give you an idea of the path to complete your BSN. I didn't like the path when I saw it, so I went to Chamberlain. ;) However, I'm back at EC for the MSN.

Wow, nice! How long did it take you at Chaimberlain? Is that also online?

I am also thinking about starting RN to BS program, starting in January 2012. I took EC's LPN to RN program, and was very satisfied.

Lunah, what about the Chamberlain's program did you prefer over EC? Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread!

Thanks! K

My credits were a better fit for Chamberlain. I had something like 206 credits already by that point, and EC wanted me to take a bunch of gen ed stuff.

I am currently enrolled into EC RN-BSN program. I love it :) And the best thing is that they are removing video requirements (starting January 2012). Previously they had two classes that students had to do the video part for - Health Assessment and Teaching. I did my video for Health Assessment class. Was fun and very nerve-wracking at the same time. I'm glad that I won't have to do it again.

I enrolled in May of 2010, took Patho, Statistics, Community-focused nursing, and Management as exams, Health-Assessment, Professional Socialization, and English as 15-weeks courses. Right now I'm taking Research class. After that it'll be Teaching (I think I will be able to take 8-week course starting January) and Capstone left. So, hopefully, I'll finish it by next July.. or Christmas :D

You can tell, I'm taking my time now :)

I would of really liked to stay at EC for my BSN, but there program is too long. They give us the flexibility of the LPN to Rn program, but the BSN drags on, I would really hope that they review this program to make it more flexible and time conscious. I really believe that Chamberlain and WGU are good programs with great flexibility. EC should take a note from them. I am currently in the BS of Liberal Arts with Excelsior, I plan to bridge in to an RN to MSN program. I really love Excelsior, but the BSN needs to be revamped. Eliminating the video requirement is a step in the right direction.

Well, it's not too bad. Yes, it will take me 2 years, but I was taking a lot of "time off". I did not have any classes from middle of April till September. I did not combined Writing class with anything else. Now I'm taking Research and again, nothing else. It is possible to combine the classes, I just do not have a lot of ambitions at this point. I did take Assessment and Socialization together, but for me it was a bit of a "too much". I want to have life too, lol.
