I'm about to enter my second year of my undergraduate BSN program and am entertaining the idea of double majoring in Microbiology. I've heard that managing the coursework for two majors (especially nursing) can be tricky and only a handful of my peers are doing it.
Is anyone pulling it off? Any words of caution or advice?

I took dual degree classes until my second semester of actual nursing classes (was doing a bachelors of biology). I plan on finishing up the biology degree after I finish my ADN classes. There just wasn't a way to do both while doing the nursing classes at my school, the scheduling didn't allow for it. I was able to do both while taking my prereqs for the nursing program, but with clinicals and lectures I couldn't coordinate classes in the bio program to fit. I crammed a ton in while doing my nursing prereqs so I don't have too many more classes to take to also obtain the biology degree. I am a math/science freak so I love the classes for the biology degree LOL...and I figured why not? I am taking Spanish to fulfill my second-language requirement for the bio degree, and that can only be an asset in the nursing field (at least where I live). So I guess it's not impossible, it just depends on how many sections of classes your school offers in order to be able to accommodate the schedule for both. Good luck!

Not sure how you'll manage clinicals & lab time with all the other classes you'll need to take for the 2nd major.
Unless you're planning to go on to graduate school, what's the reason for the double major?
