Any current Pitt DNP students here?

Published

I'm wondering if any current University of Pittsburgh DNP SRNAs are on here, and might have time for a few questions. I will be starting in January, 2020 (wait-listed for 2019 too, but that's becoming unlikely), and was hoping to pick someone's brain about the program a little bit while I wait. I'm planning on taking some courses online during Spring and Summer terms, and it would be nice to have insight from someone who has already gone through them as I make my selection. I'm also curious to talk a little about their experience at Pitt, as I anxiously wait my start date.

Hi-

I am currently a student at Pitt for CRNA. I highly recommend taking classes ahead of time if you can. The way Pitt charges tuition and the way the program is set up it is financially smart to take classes ahead of time, plus it lightens your load when things get tough.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, some of the distance learning courses are limited to PA residents. Do you mind elaborating on the tuition comment? All I could find online is the roughly 34k/yr full tuition cost. My advisor also mentioned that while taking some courses ahead of time can help lighten the load, it could potentially also alter my full time status on the terms when those classes are not on my schedule.

Sorry, I don’t know why it didn’t notify me that you responded, so I just saw this now. Tuition is charged per semester so you are looking at more than 34k a year since we go through the summers too. Full tuition is charged if you are taking more than 9 credit hours, but if you look at the credit hour break down full tuition is only cheaper than per credit hour if you are taking at least 13 credit hours per semester and I believe only 1 semester in our program is 13 credits, so if you can take classes now and get some semesters under 9 you save money. Does this make sense? I spoke with financial aid and they told me as long as I have 4.5 credits a semester I should not have a problem getting loans.
