Any current Johns Hopkins BSNs around?

Published

I'm thinking about applying to the undergraduate nursing program at Johns Hopkins and I'd appreciate any feedback that any current students can give. I'm interested in your take on the program - does the quality of the program live up to the name, what are your likes and dislikes, do you do all your clinicals at Hopkins hospital, difficulty of the program, is everyone competitive, etc. Sorry for all the thoughts but I was trying to think of anything that might be relevant. Thanks for your feedback.

i'm about to start the program in three weeks! :)

if i were you, i'd get on the website and read the student blogs. i got in to a few other schools and after visiting hopkins, i knew i wanted to be there. there are SO many opportunities!

How do you feel about the academic atmosphere there? Is it highly competitive once you're in or a collaborative, supportive feel? I'm thinking about the ABSN because of their great reputation, the opportunities and fin aid for returned Peace Corps vols, and am looking for some feedback on what it's like to be a student there... Thanks for any info you can provide!

I definitely think you should read the current student blogs; there are three so far and I think they are pretty telling of what to expect. The program so far has been really amazing. Most professors are absolutely committed to your success. The atmosphere is both competitive and supportive. Any faculty member would literally bend over backwards to help you out with anything. If it means you just need to talk to them for support or if you need a tutor that they would suggest, they are there for you 100%. And they make it clear the first week that you are there first and foremost to be a NURSE! So grades, yah, they matter, but if you just focus on that, you'll drive yourself and those around you, crazy! As far as other students being competitive, it depends on what people you surround yourself with. It is Hopkins, so you're going to have that type of personality, but the staff does not support an atmosphere of competition, and many many students are chill and willing to do study groups, etc. Hope that answers some questions. I could go on for a long time as to why I think Hopkins is an amazing school, but I'll spare you. It's great, trust me :)

Great! Thanks so much for your reply! It's nice to hear some positive things as well-- it seems like most posts on this site are along the lines of "save your money and go to a state school". Where are these blogs you mention? I tried googling them but didn't find anything... if you could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Thanks again for your input!

Try the MD section of this forum in the regions. I'm not going to be a JHU student (ill be at UMB as an instater) but I know a bunch that went to JHU. It is a good program but for me, it was not worth the price tag.

And I found the blogs....
