Any credible program that lets you take psychology online and it still counts?

I sent my college transcripts to be evaluated and now I can't re-take psychology, since I got transfer credit for it already. I don't really know what to do, because my grade for general psychology wasn't too good. I can't take it at any other junior college, since I don't have a car to travel long distances.

Are there any programs online (in California-don't want to pay any extra out-of-state fees) that are not too expensive, but are still credible?

I'm taking my academic classes online through Atlantic Cape Community College based out of Atlantic City and Cape May, NJ. They offer the class you need online, and the school regionally accreddited. All of my classes are transferring to my primary institution. And the best part is, it's only $120 per credit for online classes. You don't need to travel for the finals; it's all online. You can also try other online schools, like U Phoenix and the like, but it's more expensive. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply shahoo5!

However, I live in California, and I don't want to pay any extra out-of-state fees.

I'm looking for online programs in California only.

Actually, I'm an out-of-state student, too, and there are no extra fees for online classes. I originally looked into it because my local community college was charging me outrageous fees because I haven't lived here long enough, and I was looking for a place that didn't charge out-of-state. Check out the fees page: http://www.atlantic.edu/admission/tuitionFees.htm or call the admissions office: (609) 343-5000 or (609) 625-1111, ext. 5000. I feel like I found the best-kept secret of online learning!

Thanks for the information! :D I also sent you a private message, so hopefully you consider replying to it.

Unfortunately I don't have enough posts to be allowed to reply to private messages. Hence PRE-nursing student :) However I can still provide some info:

1. I think general psyc is 3 credits, but it's worth a phone call to be sure. Here is a link to the credit course guide for Fall 2011. Page 7 contains online courses, and I believe these courses are offered every semester: http://www.atlantic.edu/program/documents/fall_credit_2011.pdf

2. For one 3-credit online course, I paid a total of $407.90. So I guess that was a little less than $50 in administrative fees since it's $120/credit. And then I also paid for books, which can be ordered through their bookstore, but I just bought them used on Amazon.

3. In the application, it will ask whether you plan to earn a degree, or if you are a guest student. We'd be guests. You can view the paper application here http://www.atlantic.edu/admission/

4. I sent my transcripts. I have a BA, so I sent them to be exempt from their placement test. There are several ways you can be exempt. If you are not exempt, you will have to find a local place to take the Accuplacer. See http://www.atlantic.edu/admission/testing/placementTest.htm.

5. I haven't taken psyc. I've only taken Nutrition and I plan to take English, Math and Anatomy. I like it so far.

6. They're a regular communuty college and pretty legit...they have a real campus and all. If you call, you'll speak to a real person after you go through a quick menu. They're very nice. It's definitely worth a call to them AND the place you want the credits transferred to.

^Thanks soooo much for your post! I really appreciate your help!! :)

I will definitely look into it.

None of your local community colleges offer online classes? That would be my first step. If not a community college, you could try CSU satellite campuses as well.

Why aren't you able to retake your class? I was under the assumption you can retake a class as many times as you want.

I'm in California too, and wanted to retake Algebra - years ago. Since I had already taken it they said that I could ask to re-take it. It wasn't a problem for me, have you spoken to any higher-ups? Also, many of the community colleges now have on-line programs up north here at least. I've taken a few myself. Don't forget community colleges that get looked over like Yuba City, Sierra Foothills, etc...

Most online community colleges offer online courses and it doesn't matter if you are out of county or state, online is considered in county/in state. I am taking one at brookdale community in NJ (i live in NJ but in a different county)

I am taking Lifespan Psychology at Barstow College even though I live in Long Beach. It's a great online class and I believe they have Psych 1 as well. Go to Barstow.edu and sign up! It transfers to CSU and is well respected in California Nursing Schools! Check it out!
