Does anyone know of any companies in the metro Atlanta Georgia area hiring for telephone triage RN positions? Recently moved to Georgia, and would love to learn more about this field. Thank you.

Start your own business like I'm in the process of doing. Carol Rutenberg has some great help in doing this type of thing. I purchased her consulting seminars http://telephone-triage.com - Home

Telephone triage is like an "ask a nurse" service provided by some hospitals or private companies. According to the other post by Vtachy1, apparently you start your own business as well. People call when they have questions about medications, pending procedures or symptoms. You as the nurse provide them with answers to their questions, utilizing data bases via the computer or software programs provided by your particular institution. When triaging a caller, you must be very good at reading between the lines, and drawing out the information that you need to make a good recommendation. You are not able to see the patient, but you can hear many things such as how they are breathing, coughing, wheezing, anxiety, etc... You make determinations if the caller needs to call 911 immediately or come to the ER, an urgent care, see their doctor or a specialists. You must stay on top of the latest information in health care and also the latest medical scare as you will get questions about that as well. Last year when the H1N1 was going around 90% of my callers were positive that they had it. I hope this answers some of your questions. I live in Georgia as well but I am not aware of any job openings in the Atlanta area in this specialty, but don't give up, keep looking.

So I'm curious are you still working as a Telephonic Nurse Case Manager? I'm very interested in this but can seem to get any bites with my resume. I have 19 years experience in Med-Surg, Cardiology and Home Health. I am not certified as a Nurse case Manager but just purchased the Case Manager Study Guide by Fattorusso; it's on it's way from Amazon. Any advise you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated.
