Any CNAs in PA, Philadelphia, or Doylestown?

Published

Hello ALL,

I have a question about the duties of a CNA. I have a friend who works as a CNA (not certified) but still does the work at an Assitsted living Facility in doylestown, PA. She describes her duties as giving insulin, putting in orders for meds, giving other meds, and even standing in for the night nurse when their wasn't one on staff. Does this sound about right for the duties of a CNA? Or even one who is not certified? I am wondering if some of this is illegal I had no idea that a CNA could give meds let alone insulin I didn't know they got the on the job training or were liscensed to do so.

Any feedback would be helpful. Wondering if I should tell my friend to quit before she gets herself into trouble. Or even if she is telling the truth.

Thanks!

I work as a CNA in a hospital... As far as giving meds or insulin that I would believe is highly illegal... I work prehospital BLS and the only drug we can give is oxygen that is covered under protocol... I am not a certified nursing assistant however I believe having my emt played a part in me getting hired... your friend better hope and pray nothing happens where she will get pulled into court she could face not only civil suits but possibly criminal suits as well... In the hospital we can adjust the oxygen ONLY under direction of an RN/LPN... I work in central pa

I am in NC. In NC we do have a position called Medication Aide. I believe that these employees can distribute some medications. If your friend is passing meds, injecting insulin, etc, she should be a nurse! Your friend could be in real trouble if the state came knocking!
