Hello everyone,

I haven't posted much but I'm currently in the process of applying for the new graduate nursing boards for the Air Force. I graduate with my bachelors of nursing in May!! I thought it would be nice to connect and see if anyone else is applying for the new graduate board selection. My recruiter told me they meet and make decisions in July. If I get it, I'll be heading to COT in October!

Currently, the recruiter has me picking out bases that I would like to be selected at for NTP. I'm also awaiting a medical exam date. If anyone has any input on great places to start out my nursing career, let me know!

Thanks!

It will be one year of acute care in November.. I leave for COT in January so technically I have a year before NTP but.. I was selected for the NTP program... So I would still technically have to go through NTP? Bc otherwise you'd have to apply as FQ which wasn't the case. Hmm he's been right on about everything thus far..ill have to call and figure it out tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

Seems like you applied for the NTP program, and were selected for the NTP program. You will be going to the NTP program...I'm not your recruiter so I can't tell you for 100% but really it seems simple. The fully qualified position is a whole different application, deadline, etc. I don't think you just go from being a NTP select to a FQ select just because you worked for a year in the meantime.

littlemissfit,

I was selected for the NTP program also and my recruiter is saying the same thing as yours. Maybe they changed the process this year? I'm leaving for COT in Jan also.

Are any of you going to a different site for the NTP portion itself? I know musclesandmascara you said you're going to AZ before Keesler? My recruiter said that they were just sending people to their stations and doing NTP there. Did others hear that? I just want to be sure since it's getting closer. And I will be at Keesler with you as well! (Also I'd love to join the FB group, but my job can't find out I'm leaving until the month before), so I'm gonna stick to here until the FB page is completely private. It's getting close to January! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Littlemissfit, a couple of the NTPers, who are at COT right now, have told us they are heading to Tampa before going to their follow-on assignments. I don't have orders yet, so I'm unsure about my locations.

Do NOT put JBER (AK) anywhere on your list if you would rather not go there; because it's an overseas base, they can't send anyone their involuntarily. You are volunteering by putting it on your dream sheet in any way.

That's not true. They non-vol to OCONUS regularly. The needs of the AF trump any personal desires 10 times out of 10. I know this because I got non-vol'd to an OCONUS assignment that was no where near my dream sheet.

I'm just relaying what a former AFPC nursing assignments officer told me. She told me they non-vol Captains and Majors who have never been to an overseas base, but they generally don't do that with brand new nurses.

JBER is a landing site for new grads after NTP, but typically only for volunteers.

Anyone from this thread care to give me advice?! I'm applying for NTP this year and submitting everything soon-I could use some advice!

There's not much NTP new grad people can do other than get as high of grades as possible in school. Make sure your essays have the tone of "this is what I can do for the military" not "what can the military do for me."
