I am a BSN nurse And I am currently working for the VA. I am seriously interested in joining the Air Force reserves (in Florida) but before I go talk to a recruiter, I would really appreciate any input of some actual AFR nurses!
For instance, what do you do during those on-duty weekends/15 days annual drills; how often are you getting deployed and what type of deployments are there (e.g. Humanitatian, war zones, ect); are deployments always a set time of lenght or do they vary; how well does your schedule work with your civilian job; what type of benefits are there; and anything else what comes to mind that might be important to know.
Furthermore, I just turned 40, and I wear contact lenses, would that be a problem? I have over one year experience in subacute/rehab but was able to finally transfer to our brand-new ER department (I am part of the activation team), so I was hoping to get a position in critical care with the AFR...
Any input and insights are very much appreciated!
Anybody?

Have some patience, members who might answer aren't necessarily here every day. A recruiter will be able to answer your questions and tell you if there is even a unit in your area with openings. If you don't get answers here, definitely move forward with that. :)
Good luck!
