Any advice/study tips for the HESI Med-Surg?

Published

Hi everyone! I'm currently on the second semester of our nursing program. For our finals, we have to take the HESI Med-Surg exam. I really want to get at least a 960 on it, because I didn't do so well on our last test, which terribly dragged my grades down. In addition, Med-Surg has not really been my strongest subject this semester, so that makes me even more nervous and stressed out. Do you have any tips on how to ace it? What material (besides the lecture notes) or review book would you recommend to study for the exam? I've heard a lot of people swear by the HESI Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination review book in terms of HESI specialty exams, but a lot of people also recommend the Saunders book. For this particular HESI exam, which of these two review books would you say is the best and would offer the most help?

(Also, what is the Med-Surg Hesi out of? I've read somewhere that it's out of 1130 and each question is graded based on its difficulty. Is that right?)

Thank you so much!:)

To prepare I'd suggest that you review both with the HESI book and the Saunders book. Doing questions with both will help you with the type of questions that will be on the Med-Surg HESI. Learning how to break down the question and think of a nursing action (when the question is asking that) is important. Med-Surg is not my strongest area but my other classmates that have done well on the Med-Surg HESI has done fairly well using either of those review books and/or question bank program. HESIs don't have a specific "out of" value to it but the scores do range from 0 to 1000 and sometimes 1,500 and it all depends on the difficulty of the exam. You will also want to take into consideration that each test item is weighed differently.
