Yeah, you're probably right. I'm using the NCLEX book because it's a review book so it'll be faster than reading all my textbooks. I'm assuming the medical knowledge & nursing interventions would be the same between US & Canada. Hopefully it will work out because there wasn't enough time to order the CRNE prep guide.
Thanks Loriangel14!
Someone just asked me whether I took the CCA yet and how it was. I'm taking it in about a week and half so I'll definitely put up a post to let future CCA takers know what I thought and how best to study. Right now, I've been brushing up on my nursing foundation - I just used the review book I had from when I took NCLEX a few months ago since medical/nursing knowledge should be pretty similar and I didn't have enough time to order the CRNE and other Canadian books. The CCA recommendations are to just use medical textbooks from the past 5 yrs (not a specific Canadian study guide or prep book) so as long as the nursing knowledge is current it should be fine. I just prefer a review book than reading through multiple textbooks. I am also working my way through as many CRNE questions as I can find - hopefully practice makes perfect! Also, don't forget to read the CCA letter and use the resources they recommend online - the scenarios, competencies, practice act, etc. Will keep you all posted.
Hi Everyone,Does anyone have specific advice for the Clinical Competence Assessment or SEC?
I know the staff have a general post about what the SEC/CCA is and the areas covered, but there's not much about how to study other than what the boards provide.
I'm taking the CCA in a couple of weeks and so far I've been studying from my NCLEX review book (that I used to pass boards in the US) to cover all the major issues in General Nursing, OB, peds, and mental health. I'll be doing practice questions as well. I've looked at the resources and scenarios online and read the 'entry level competencies', 'standards of practice' and 'code of ethics'.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Also, has anyone used nurses2canada.net to study for the CRNE? Are the resources & questions comparable to the CRNE? It just seems too cheap ($20/month unlimited compared to $40 for 100 MC questions in the CRNE readiness test).
nurses2canada.net online exam is copied from Mosby Prep Guide and Lippincott CRNE Guide, some names were just changed to prevent copyright violation. If you have these books no need to buy nurses2canada.net online practice tests it's just a repitition of these books.
