Any advice for a new RN

Published

I recently graduated in December and I have had a couple of interviews recently. I was curious if any seasoned RNs out there would have any hints and/or advice for me regarding starting my career as a new RN. Thanks in advance!

Don't be lazy, don't act spoiled. Be open to criticism.

Don't think you know everything.

And don't talk about ARNP school on your first day.

Don't expect the "tech" to do the work.

Be a nurse. A real one.

Good luck.

P.S. Show them you are willing to work hard...I think the backlash from the above type of nurse is what is fueling a lot of new grad freezes.

oh...cover up the tats, take out the nose ring, please don't color your hair blue, no texting, put away the darn cell phone...stay off the internet at work.

:yeah:

JO, you've just exasperated many of the 20 somethings out there... and probably some 30 somethings too.

Not my intention. But when you're waking up from surgery and the first thing you see is a tattooed, nose-ringed, purple-haired person texting away while you writhe in pain...

Out the door you go...they WILL find a way to escort you legally and without looking back.....:smokin:
