Any advice for an interview in the Duke SNIP program for new grads?

I was lucky enough to get an interview for the Duke SNIP program in the ICN (NICU). I have an interview and I shadow with a nurse for 2 hours before the interview. If anyone has interviewed at Duke before, advice would be much appreciated! I have never been to NC.

i had an interview last week for the SNIP program and i got the job! the interview was very relaxed, i just made sure to stress why i wanted to work in the particular field and talked about any experience i had in that area...they ask some behavioral type questions too like how you deal with conflict or frustration but overall it was very relaxed. the shadowing experience gives you an opportunity to ask a lot of questions too, dont worry you dont have to do any skills or anything it is literally just a shadow and it goes by fast! good luck

I recently applied to the Fall cohort of the Duke SNIP/ clinical nurse new grad residency and I'm wondering how the application and interview process works?

Did you get accepted in your first choice or second choice...how about a unit that you didn't pick? Did you have any prior experience in the unit you selected?

I'm just really curious since I'm moving to NC in the next month and I've been job searching for what seems forever now and I'm just hoping my luck will turn around sooner than later. So any advice about the program or other NC programs would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I was hired to my first choice out of the two given. I had completed my preceptorship (practicuum) in the unit I was hired to. The other unit didn't interview me.

First of all, it took a long time for Duke to contact me for an interview. I had assumed I wasn't hired since I applied mid Feb and didn't hear anything until mid May. The actual interview included a 2 hour shadow with a nurse then an hour long interview. I also met with HR (they are all extremely nice). It was very relaxed. Just stress why you enjoy the area applied to and why you will succeed in said area.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the information Granadine. The deadline for application was yesterday and the program is not said to start until nov/dec so I'm guessing from what you said I probably won't be hearing from them anytime soon. But hopefully I do end up hearing something.

You mention that you were accepted to your first choice unit which also was the unit that you had your preceptorship on; do you think that you have a better chance of getting on the unit that you had your senior preceptorship on? Also was there other new nurses accepted on your unit?

I'm sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to predict what my chances are of getting an interview/the position.

I am not sure if the preceptorship made a difference. I was lucky enough to have my senior preceptorship on the unit I wanted, so it wasn't an issue. There were 6 SNIP hires to my unit, I am not sure if this is average or not. I haven't started orientation yet, so I can't give you much info.
