I was just accepted into the Vocational Nursing program at Kaplan College in North Hollywood today. I was hoping some of you would share your tips for success while becoming a nurse. There is such a plethora of knowledge on this site, and I'm thankful for any advice/tips I can get.
I am a dedicated Army Veteran with a full sleeve tattoo, and am a little nervous of that. I guess I will be wearing lots of moisture wicking long sleeve undershirts huh? hehe.

You will be fine, lol...the field is loosening up on tattoos, they know we have them, and that doesn't interfere with our ability to do good work. (plus my charge nurse has tattoos on all ten fingers across his knuckles)....Anyone, I am currently at Vocational school, we graduate in April. I would say READ, READ, and then READ to understand, not just to say you read it. Do your practice NClex book chapters along with the chapters that are assigned by your instructor, and answer the questions, oh yes, and keep up if not ahead of the game, so many people get relaxed, and it sets them up for failure. Even if some of the info is familiar, read it like you have never seen it b4.....I guess thats all I have, good luck, you will do gr8t.

hey andrew, sorry to go off topic, but i know there is lots of schools around the area like ACC and concorde. any reason why you chose kaplan?
I chose Kaplan because the class size is smaller and it makes the learning experience that much more personal. Also, the pass rate for the classes at my school in North Hollywood was pretty high. The board pass rate for the state was in the high 80 percentile as well. If I pass the state exam the school will pay for my license which is pretty cool. I am a Veteran, and really like the Vet rep that they had. I was attending a previous school, and never received the attention that I have been getting from Kaplan. I know of various people that have graduated from Kaplan and they had nothing bad to say about the school. So, those are just a few of my reasons for choosing that school.

Best of luck to you!
When test taking - always remember safety first! especially in your theory courses when the questions are "what would you do?" or "what is the best choice?"
