Any Accepted Students to Rochester's 2010 AMPNN Program?

Published

Hi all, I'm looking to connect with any students who have been accepted to the University of Rochester's AMPNN program beginning in May 2010. I was accepted into the FNP track.

Are there any students out there who were accepted to the ABPNN program who are considering pursuing the Master's degree at U of R at a later date? Love to hear from you too!

You will have more luck with this post if you go the the New York Nursing Programs section.

I think something like 200+ posts are there.

Thanks for the tip, AccelRN! I didn't even know that section existed. I just checked and it looks like most posts are from pre-acceptance dates except for one regarding Rochester's ABPNN program which I had already seen.

Still looking to connect with any incoming 2010 AMPNN students at Rochester!

Hi malapata,

I will also be starting the ampnn program in may- pediatric psychiatry. I'm so excited but very nervous to be moving from mild California to snowy NY! Have you found housing yet??

Libby, I'm still in CA and if I end up going to Rochester, I will probably move in late April. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few other schools before I make my final decision, although I really like the program at Rochester.

I was thinking I would go out the last week of April to look for a place. What is your plan?

It's great to hear from other people in the program!!

I will be driving cross country May 1st-- which I am NOT looking forward too, hahah. I found a great little apartment very close to the white coat ghetto- but I can't move in until May 16th. I'm cutting it a little close!! Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to fund the tuition, its steep, but after living in Santa Barbara, the $400/month rent for a one bedroom almost seems to make up for the high tuition. Good luck in your decision process! I hope you have lots of schools to chose from, and are happy wherever you end up : )

Did you go out to Rochester to find the apartment? That is the second time I've heard that term the white coat ghetto...that is very funny. I totally hear you on the cheap rent! Imagine all the money you'll save ...it does actually make up for the tuition, in a way. Also, check into scholarships and loan repayment programs on the AACN website (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/)!!

Congrats to all of you for being accepted into the AMPNN program! I am planning to apply to the University of Rochester Direct AMPNN program for Spring 2012. I would like to apply to the Fall 2011 class, but I will still be finishing up a few perquisites at the time the application is due (i would be finished by the start of the Fall '11 program), I don't want that to hurt my application and thus thought it would be better to apply to their Spring 2012 start. I just wanted to see if any of you applied and got accepted into the program while still finishing up a perquisite or two. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was accepted last week to the AMPNN (Adult/Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner) for January 2011! I am extremely happy. My only concern right now is funding. Anyone find any good resources for student's in our situation (a lot of aid requires you have your RN lic.)? I would really appreciate any and all suggestions. Also, how are you guys doing in your classes now (since you started in May 2010)? How tough is it?

Did you apply for the scholarships funded by the U of R? Info. should have been sent with your acceptance packet.

The program has been tough, but it's doable! I can't believe my cohort is almost 2/3 done. Time is flying by!!

of course, I received the scholarship forms. however, there is not enough aid to cover tuition & room/board. Have you found any aid outside of U of R? its been tough finding aid that fits our situation.

I haven't found any one scholarship that pays for the entire cost of tuition. The U of R scholarships may not cover all of your tuition, but could end up paying 1/3 or more of it which aint too shabby.

There are loan repayment scholarships that will pay back quite a bit of your loans if you are willing to work as a nurse for 2 years in an under served community:

Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program

Health Professions Education Foundation (specific to those who will work in CA)

Here are some other resources I have looked into (but, again, I don't think any of them cover the entire cost of tuition):

Undergraduate Scholarship

Scholarship Resources

AACN - Education - Financial Aid

MoreThanGrades - Home

Fastweb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges (good old fastweb can be a good resource as well)

I hope this is helpful!
