Anxiety or something else..

Published

I have been experiencing heart palpitations, sick to my stomach, trembling, heart burn and just feeling weird. I went o doctor and had echo stress and it was fine. I also went home with a event monitor for 3 weeks and nothing but I can feel my heart flutter almost like skip and it takes my breath away. I try to think stress with the studying for the boards and working and hopefully one day getting rid of my crazy husband..If any one has advice I will take it..

Thanks!!!

Seems to me that you are definitely experiencing some sort of anxiety towards the NCLEX. Have you noticed any precipitaing factors while studying? Aside from test anxiety, some of the major reasons that I feel causes much stress/anxiety in individuals studying for the boards are:

1. Overwhelmed by the amount of information that one can possibly be tested on. - It's true that you never will know what you'll be tested on the NCLEX, due to the fact that you may get between 75-265 questions. Unless you study religiously everyday, reading your review book from front to back several times, you will not know everything. There are even questions on the NCLEX that I've heard that aren't even discussed in review books (i.e. Botox?????). Your best bet is to just focus a bit more on your weaknesses, as well as do practice questions.

2. Pressure from friends/family. - If it's not the reviewing that causes stress/anxiety, this usually ends up the likely culprit. Everyone has their own way of dealing with this. Some don't tell others when they plan on taking it, others do. Don't let others dictate when you should take it; only you know when you are ready to take it. Most likely, they don't know what hardships you had to endure to get up to this point.

lol, not sure if that second point made any sense. Sorry! I say in the meantime, try to investigate what causes and/or precipitates your physical symptoms. Eliminating these as well as any other stresses can help keep you more focused, as well as build confidence in yourself for taking the boards. I wish you the best of luck and for resolution of your fear/anxieties. You can do it!:D
