hello to everybody.
i have been lurking around this forum for quite some time, i'm finding the insights and comments of people around here very useful and enlightening to both me and my wife (suzanne's and dale's easily come to mind).
i hope you don't mind me making my first, albeit lengthy post. from a different perspective, if you will -- from a candidate nurse dependent.
my wife has practiced nursing in the philippines for almost 10 years, in a national (government) hospital. she has been around -- from female surgical ward, to a burn unit, then to male surgical ward. from staff to head nurse.
almost 10 years of passionate and genuine service to our underprivileged countrymen. all these despite the odd working hours, a paltry salary, under a poor health-care system in a decaying national government.
a job well done, you might say. doing work she has envisioned doing since she was a young girl.
she stopped working november of 2004, in order to focus on all the requirements asked from a nurse who wishes to work in the US.
believe me, the decision for her to stop working was a difficult, conjugal decision. personally, it meant having to face the possibility of ending my promising career in broadcasting here in the philippines -- notwithstanding the odd working hours, a relatively laughable salary, under a poor labor-system in a decaying national government. this is a career i continue to love and nurture for almost 8 years.
but if the realization of a promise of a brighter future for the family should come from my wife, in the US, and not from me, then, so be it. i bit the bullet, swallowed the pride, and wholeheartedly supported her in this endeavor.
this path brought her to this current point. these are her particulars:
* signed a contract with a central valley, california hospital (thru an agency)
* PD is January 2005
* she has completed all critical requirements -- CGFNS, NCLEX, Visa Screen Certificate
* I-140 approved May 2005
* waiting for Fee Bill (when do you think it will arrive?)
i hope you guys don't mind, i have a few questions (don't worry, none of those "will she be able to enjoy a piece of the 50,000 pie?" it will happen when it happens):
1. my wife is currently 3+ months pregnant. during which part of the immigration process should we formally declare this? should we already pay the fee of the unborn child if and when we file the DS-230? the agency said that the lawyers will just manifest this fact during the filing. is this true?
2. is there a future for a dependent spouse? can i also work, but be subjected to the usual change of immigration status?
thank you, as i await your responses.
to the filipino nurses around here, you are in this forum because you wish to share in the american dream (it is not just disneyland, dale. :) ). i wish you all good luck.
but please humor some slight musings of an outsider to your profession...
you are a nurse first, and a possible immigrant second. your chosen profession is not a means to the (american) end. always set ablaze the flame of genuine service. prove yourselves worthy of the 50,000 pie (or an EB3 visa should it become current again). hone your skills in our country, the privilege of serving our countrymen comes with it.
please don't cut corners. if you're planning to take the TNT route, please reconsider. so many TNTers have hurt the legit applicants already (immigrants or non-immigrants!). prove your mettle!
bring pride to the filipino nurse. show the world what you are made of.
thank you.
Adia,
Yeah knew that song and you're asking me to figure that out?:rotfl: I think you did not get me do you? If the song was for me though. First of all i am not complaining..I am just describing the current scenario and what is really happening in the Philippines. Open your eyes and be a REALIST don't be like John Lennon who is still dreaming like the JERKS. If you stay with the sinking ship you will be dead. So why are you going to the U.S.?
Have you seen the program "Imbestigador" ? There was a documentary that was shown before the end of the year 2004. There was a man who is always selling his HUMAN BLOOD almost every month just for money. Or how about SELLING THEIR KIDNEYS just to have food for their children? Or about selling one of their EYES just to give money to an ailing mother? A very good son though.
Selling their HUMAN ORGANS while they are still alive...Will you wait for the vultures to eat you while you are slowly dying from starvation?
MAJORITY, MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE PHILIPPINES ARE LIVING IN SUB-HUMAN CONDITIONS...How are THE JERKS going to solve that with their song?
Do you go out on the streets of Manila? To see how many people are suffering from starvation, poverty, poor medical system? This is how things go here.
ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES as they say...
And it is true that life is very hard here, you say i am complaining?
Ashamed of being a Filipino? A lot of people are laughing on us because our President is a BIG JOKE, you say I am complaining?
I think the reason why a lot of people are leaving is they want to give a GOOD FUTURE and opportunity for their children and for themselves...there's nothing wrong with that...there's nothing unpatriotic with that...
Hey do you know the song RAGE also by the JERKS... Ok i will post the lyrics so you won't have to figure that out and everybody can understand it because it is writen in plain english...
Rage / The Jerks (The Jerks)
_______________
Children begging at the streets at night
Knocking on cars 'til the morning light
People standing in line for a kilo of rice
Welcome to the Dark Ages
In the era of lights
Dreams of progress of visions gone mad
Mendiola's still drenched with innocent blood
Demolition and rumbles through Smokey Mountain homes
Darkness indeed
Justice dressed in blue
But go not gently into the night
Rage against the dying of the light
Sing a song about this terrible sight
Rage until the lightning strikes
Go not gently
Go not gently
Go not gently
And rage with me...
And the name's and the faces of the tyrants change
But poverty, pain and murder remains
And the voices of truth are locked up in chains
Darkness remains
Freedom in flames
But go not gently into the night
Rage against the dying of the light
Sing a song about this terrible sight
Rage until the lightning strikes
Go not gently
Go not gently
Go not gently
And rage with me...
Rage with me
Come on, baby
Rage with me...
****END OF SONG****
I WILL RAGE!!!

Hi Jenic!
Since you have an earlier pd, please don't forget to inform us when you received the letter from NVC. Ok?
DALE
No, i just asked to know what else inclines you other than slash, and yeah, what can you say about the song. It's a song (the Jerks' reklamo) that does not appeal to me anymore. But this is not to say I contradict chikoy pura, man he has written that long time ago. This guy is brilliant and so are Jess Santiago, Noel Cabangon,Kidlat Tahimik, etc.
Yeah, I am adept with the world outside.
If you ask me why am i going to US, well after being a CGFNS certified for 10 years now, i've decided.
Thanks for your reply. I respect your view.
guys:
thanks for all your insights.
i tried contacting the NVC through the hotline today.
i found out that the FEE BILL was generated june 27,
and that a CASE NUMBER (of course) is already assigned to my wife.
as i've said before, we've filled up the DS230 form already and forwarded the fees (of the dependents) to the agency already.
waiting for the arrival of the fee bill...
:)
Nurse Dependent:
What is the exact date your wife's I-140 got approved? You said it was approved around May...Did you fill out the forms and PAID the visa bill before a case number was assigned? Or a case number was assigned when the NVC received your case?
Did your agency pay(visa fees) for the nurse, spouse and dependents?
thanks,
dale

yup, filled up biometric forms and forwarded visa bill payment for me and my daughter to the AGENCY ONLY (agency pays for wifey's). in case agency receives fee bill, they'd just have to mail it back to NVC without having to summon us to their office (unless they ask her for a copy of the visascreen cert).
case number was assigned after the NVC received I-140 approval.

Good for you! you did experience the agonizing pain of waiting for the retrogression...these are happy times for RNs, enjoy the ride and welcome to the nurses comittee!

Dear Kabayan:
What is the exact date your case was received by NVC and how did you know that the case was received by NVC? Did your agency notified you? Was it June 27, 2005? Was that also the time when the visa fee bill was generated?
I am getting confused on how NVC do the processing...
Thanks for your help...

kapatid na dale:
we don't know the exact receipt date from NVC. wifey's agency told her that after the I-140 approval, the lawyers immediately forwarded her papers to NVC, so that wouldv'e happened after May 18.
we didn't contact the agency regarding the matter. it was through my own volition (as suggested by you and suzanne to be proactive about these matters) that i called up the NVC hotline yesterday.
i found out about the June 27 Fee Bill generation through the hotline. it was through the hotline that i came to know about the case number for my wife's application.
my wife called up the agency to appraise them of this new development. she was advised that from the NVC to the lawyers (in the US) and to the agency here, it normally takes +/- 30 days for the receipt of the fee bill. a safe answer, i think, from the agency.
dhel:
you are so correct about agonizing over the retrogression issue.
the retrogression issue came up immediately after our conjugal decision to jump into the immigration fray.
we were soooooo ready and prepared for the looooonnnggg wait.
otherwise, if we are made recipients of the 50,000 visas, then it will truly be a blessing.
